K12HSN is committed to the goal of offering robust, high speed network connectivity to all CA school districts. K-12 HSN is operated by the Imperial County Office of Education, along with its partner Butte County Office of Education. Currently, network access is made available via 80+ program-funded node sites, or “aggregation points,” spread throughout California’s 58 counties. Typically County O
ffices of Education serve as these aggregation points for the districts in their counties.The core service of the K12HSN program is access to a physical network that leverages the technological infrastructure of the California Research and Education Network (CalREN), an advanced, high-capacity network that serves the vast majority of research and education institutions across California. CalREN was built and continues to be managed by the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC), a public-benefit corporation. Secondarily, since the infrastructure exists, the program promotes its use to provide the K-12 community with useful digital tools and resources. Program resources offered via the CalREN network support teaching and learning (e.g., My Digital Chalkboard, mydigitalchalkboard.org), instruction, collaboration and professional development, (k20video.org) help-desk support (MyTechDesk, www.mytechdesk.org ), and a database that reports connectivity speeds for schools in California (Datalink, datalink.k12hsn.org).
