Buckeye Friends School

What a show! The play was a hit, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing audience. Thanks for showing up and cheering us on!

🎭 We’re busy rehearsing for our upcoming play, The Unteachables, hitting the stage THIS Friday, 4/18 at 6:00 pm here at Buckeye Friends School!

This fun and heartwarming story follows a group of wild kids and their soon-to-retire teacher—you won’t want to miss it!

We have had a great and exciting start to 2025!

Our students have been working hard on their projects for Expo, which is February 5th (stay tuned to see their final projects). Our theme is Culinary Cultures. We have been learning so much about the Amazon Rainforest, Thailand, Japan, China, and even the United States!

This week, we also visited our friends at Willowbrook Memory Care facility. Our students read to the residents. Fun for all!

Snow much fun! ❄️ Our students and staff made the most of the winter wonderland last week—laughter, snowballs, and memories in the making!

It’s been a jolly whirlwind over here at BFS!

We’ve had so much fun getting into the holiday spirit—decorating our Christmas tree, knocking down pins at the bowling alley, and creating heartfelt cards for one of our amazing friends and students. ❤️

This season is all about joy, and we’re definitely feeling it! 🎁❄️

Carrie challenged Erika's pod to go online and find the menu for Homewood Grill in Effingham. She said if they could find something to order that was under $5, they could write out their order including the price, and she would take them to Homewood Grill for a treat. They managed to find yummy things to order that were just under $5...$4.80! So, off they went. They each ordered and enjoyed their chosen treat.

Once back at the school, Erika’s pod took the time to make thank you cards for Carrie.

Erika’s dog, Charles Barkley, joined us on Friday. The kids absolutely adored him and he loved all of the attention! 💙💚

Our theme this fall is Fast Food. The kids helped to create our Fast Food banner. Our new director, Brock Paul, leads morning circle each day. As always, we kicked off the year with a yummy family potluck.

Buckeye colearners are hard at work today participating in a project based learning workshop presented by Christy Dietzen and Carrie Huff. We are excited about this school year! 📚✏️

A big “thank you” to everyone who came out last night to enjoy some incredible live music! We hope you had as much fun as we did!

We’re excited to invite you to a fun-filled day at 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟭𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟱-𝟳 𝗽𝗺! Enjoy live music from the amazing Burney Sisters, along with refreshments, a meet-and-greet, and a chance to grab some Burney Sisters merchandise. Our Buckeye Team will also have a booth with information about Buckeye Friends School and some exciting updates on what our students will be up to this upcoming school year!

We’re looking for volunteers to help make this event extra special. If you can bake cookies, and provide water bottles, popcorn, or any other baked goods, we’d love your support! Financial donations are also appreciated and will go directly toward the cause. If anyone has extra coolers we could borrow, that would be a big help too. Please reach out if you’re interested in volunteering!

A little background on the Burney Sisters:
The Burney Sisters consist of a sister duo, Emma (16) and Bella (14).
Emma has established herself as not only a vocal powerhouse but highly skilled with multiple instruments. Her first love was the guitar, but it was followed quickly by bass, fiddle, cello, piano, banjo, and basically anything she could get her hands on.
Bella, the youngest of the songwriting duo, adds not only her vocal talents, but also rounds out the girls' harmonic sound and rhythm on bass, as well as piano, guitar, and Cajon.
The Burney Sisters recently signed a recording contract and moved south.
