Last week, the SIUE Surveying and Geomatics program came together for our annual New Surveyor’s Awards Luncheon—a celebration of growth, mentorship, and opportunity.

We recognized 17 outstanding students who earned tuition awards and, more importantly, the chance to connect one-on-one with leaders in construction, utilities, and government. These connections will go beyond the classroom, giving students practical insight into the surveying profession and direct access to mentors in the field.

Events like these are not only a testament to the continued growth of the department, but also to the bright futures being built here—one connection at a time. Our partnerships with company sponsors make these opportunities possible, and we remain committed to growing those relationships to support student success.

Ever wonder why some ponds hold water and others don't? Though they sound similar, detention and retention ponds are designed for different purposes.

💡Why it matters: ponds or basins temporarily store stormwater runoff and slowly release it to prevent flooding downstream. ponds permanently hold water, acting more like a small lake with added storage during heavy rains. Our water infrastructure team can quickly determine which solution fits each site so every pond performs exactly as it should.

Spring Semester Spotlight!

This spring, we had the chance to celebrate some amazing students at our 2025 Scholarship Awards Ceremony.

Students from the Engineering Department, including those in Construction, were recognized for their hard work and dedication.

It was an honor to celebrate them. Their commitment and determination truly stand out!
