I took Darwin and Vera to Garrett Veterinary Services Saturday. Darwin got a final CLEAN bill of health!!! Vera was in for an initial check up but she was very intimidated and stressed out, so we could only get a visual inspection on her without using a sedative, as she is venomous. (I've never seen her in that state of mind😯) Doc and I didn't want to stress her out even more so we decided it'd best to let her have her way💚.
I love how interested and welcoming everybody is at this veterinarian. They don't treat Exoctics like freaks and with fear in their services. They are very professional and treat every animal with the care and compassion it deserves, furry and cuddly or scaley and slithery. This is my tribe. Doc is experience with Exotics and has great knowledge of their care. As a keeper of several species you can tell when a vet is ignorant or skeptical, this was NOT that! She made me very comfortable and allowed me to build a confidence in her ability to treat my animals. I'm happy to be a client of theirs. Thanks everyone!!💚🐍🐸🦎🐢🐊

It vanished so quietly that many assumed it was gone for good.

Then it reappeared, small enough to curl on a coin, mistaken for something ordinary twice over.

But what makes its return remarkable is not just its size, it is how it survived unseen.

The Barbados threadsnake lives almost entirely underground, moving through soil and leaf litter where few surveys truly reach. For 20 years, it was not found, not because it was absent, but because it exists in a layer of the world most people never search.

It feeds on ant and termite larvae, slipping through spaces too small for predators and too hidden for notice. Even its reproduction is subtle, producing a single egg at a time, keeping its numbers low and its presence easy to miss.

When it was finally spotted again, it did not arrive dramatically. It was simply there, as it always had been.

Its story shifts the idea of disappearance. Not everything lost is gone.

Some things are just living quietly, waiting for someone to look closer.
