Slowing things down with one of our Scanning drills. The stationary player along the boards and the player doing the cutbacks are constantly exchanging pucks. The player along the boards is the one who determines when they exchange pucks. This forces the player that is moving to keep their eyes up “scanning” the ice and waiting for the exchange. As the players get more comfortable scanning the pace of the skater moving and rate at which the exchanges happen increases.
Elite level players are constantly scanning with or without the puck determining what their next play is before it happens. It is a subtle detail that makes these players pace of play faster.
