Long before Tinder and Bumble, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire embraced computerized, algorithmic matchmaking. On September 7, 1973, the Inter-Residence Hall Council hosted a Computer Dance in the old Davies Center.

September 6, 1984 sees a preview of "Eighteen in '84," a comic series in The Spectator lambasting Wisconsin Act 74, which raised the legal drinking age from 18 to 19 years of age.

It's Labor Day Weekend in 1984, but Water Street is strangely quiet. Wisconsin Act 74 went into affect in July, raising the legal drinking age to 19 years of age or older. Without 18 year-olds, business is down by 30% in Water Street taverns.

After a summer of legal drama, Burger King re-opens in the old Davies Center on September 3, 1992. Judge Richard Calloway issued a temporary restraining order to prevent Dairy Queen from taking over BK's spot in Davies.

The Allied Health and Clinical Services Center, now known as the Human Sciences and Services building, first opens its doors on September 2, 1982. It will be 31 years before University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire constructs another new academic building. Happy Labor Day, everyone!

It's August 29, 1974, and 51 women attending University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire take up residence at St. Bede's Priory due to a campus housing shortage. Rooms are comparable in size and amenity to those in campus residence halls. A little green bus provides transportation to and from campus.
