World On A Wing — 16.3h, 11 Year-Old OTTB Gelding
“Ringo” is a 16.3h, 10-year-old OTTB gelding with an exceptional temperament and a huge heart. He has never offered any funny business under saddle—no buck, rear, bolt, or dirty behavior. He’s incredibly sweet, loves attention, and is the kind of horse that is just enjoyable to have in the barn.
He has great ground manners, is a peach on the lunge line, and loves hitting the trails. He’s being offered primarily as a trail horse or project for an experienced rider. He is still green in his flatwork and can be forward at the trot and canter, so he is not appropriate for a beginner and will need an advanced, confident rider who is comfortable continuing his education.
For someone interested in developing him further, Ringo also has a ton of jumping potential. He’s athletic, willing, and could be a really fun project for the right person to bring along in their own direction. Would also make an amazing western gamer if someone is looking for a new barrel/pole horse!
This is not a horse with a bad temperament being sold as a “project.” He is genuinely kind, willing, and bombproof-minded—he simply needs more education and mileage then I have the time to give him.
Truly a great deal on a great horse. I’d love to see Ringo land with someone who appreciates his temperament and wants to enjoy him as he is or put the time into developing all the potential that’s there.
There’s plenty of pros, but here’s a list of cons in the spirit of transparency:
- needs front shoes to stay comfortable. Could maybe be phased out of them at some point? He has decent feet, but they’re sensitive.
- Has an underbite that doesn’t seem to bother him, but the dentist recommended floats every 6 months
- Is forward. Has never really shaken off that race-horse mentality. But, his gaits are smooth and he takes care of his rider. No matter how forward he’s been, he’s always felt safe to ride.
- Is the hardest keeper I have ever come across in my days. But! No vices!! No cribbing, no weaving, stands quietly on the crossties, is a gem for the farrier, vet, dentist, etc. Trailers well, will trail ride alone or in a group, and will genuinely be your best friend.
The only reason I’m selling Ringo is because I need room in my lesson program for quieter horses, and Ringo is never going to be the walk-trot pole Diva that I need. Truly such a great horse for the right person.
