Have women that inspire you?💜
Come to our artist’s reception for the Self Actualized Woman illustration contest March 4th, 2026 (3-5p.m.) in the Madelon Powers mezzanine. Here are author, Dr. D’s inspirations:
“My mother taught me that I could achieve any dream through tenacity, discipline, will, and compassion. She instilled in me a belief in the beauty of the world and all beings, even when life becomes harsh and unforgiving. She taught me to examine problems in order to find solutions for the benefit of self and others; to have hope and share that light to inspire; to listen with intention and provide space for all.
I am inspired every day by women of all ages—my daughters, students, colleagues, and women around the world—who show up, push forward, and never give up. Women who believe they can create the best version of themselves, no matter how long or difficult the journey may be. Who fall, but never break. Who do not succumb to the poisons of hate, jealousy, greed, or malice. Who understand that the responsibility of womanhood is to see ourselves with brutal honesty and to nurture the seed of love and understanding for self and others. To never settle, and to build a life in which each woman can find her own truth.
Keep going. You are going to change the world.”

On October 29, we celebrated the Alumni Biennial, a vibrant showcase of work from our talented ESU Art + Media + Design alumni!

Featured every two years, this exhibition highlights the incredible diversity of disciplines our alumni explore, from photography, graphic design, and web design to animation, cinematography, sound, lighting, illustration, and painting.

As Professor and Department Chair Darlene Farris-LaBar shared, “This is more than just an exhibition, it’s a testament to the transformative power of visual culture and creative education.”

We’re proud to feature the works of Andreas Alomar ’19, Terrance Burke ’94, David Canady ’15, Carmela Cancelmo ’23, Devin Kagel ’20, MJ Law ’89, Alena Lisa ’15, Alex Ortiz ’18, George Pineda ’21, Laura Sarria ’20, and Samantha Washington ’17, each bringing a unique vision and voice to the gallery.

Curated by Darlene Farris-LaBar, David Mazure, and Damian Thorn-Hauswirth, this biennial honors the diverse paths our alumni have forged and the lasting impact they continue to make in creative industries and communities around the world.
