“America was changed in ways we will never forget 25 years ago, on September 11, 2001. Our nation lost nearly 3,000 people in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Among them were two of our own Brothers: Brother Christopher Scudder (Xi Mu—Spring 1986) and Brother Calvin Gooding, Jr. (Zeta Zeta Lambda—Fall 1987), both of whom were killed at the World Trade Center . . . Today, we as Brothers should remember not only those who were lost, but also the families and our fellow Brothers who continue to live without a mother, father, brother, sister, or best friend who can never be replaced. Brothers who lived through September 11th should take time to reflect; . . . To the Brothers who were not yet with us at that time, I ask that you spend time with a Brother who remembers September 11 firsthand. Their experiences are part of our living history 25 years later. This is more than a story in a textbook; it concerns real people whose lives have changed forever. . . . Amid division and hardship, let us remember that we can unite around a common purpose that uplifts every person in the communities we serve. As a Fraternity, our greatest strength is our unity and our shared commitment to addressing the challenges facing our world.”
