As we go about our day today, let us reflect on a solemn truth. The truth is that freedom isn’t free. More than 1.3 million of our sons, daughters, mothers, sister and brothers over the course of the history of our great nation have don the cloth and gone into battle on behalf of us. 🇺🇸🦅

They gave their lives believing and defending our nation was worth it and you bet it really is. In their service and sacrifice, they gave us the gift of a perfect example. The perfect example flowed through their service into today.

It echoes from the resolve that they had at places like Valley Forge, the hallowed fields of Gettysburg, determination in the forests in Europe and in the courage in those who assaulted forward on the beaches Normandy and in the Pacific. It continues to endure in the memories of the quiet fortitude of those who got after it in Korea, patrolled in the jungles of Vietnam and who faced uncertainty in the Middle East and yet showed up day after day with courage and tenacity.

Whats binding them together is not the terrain that they fought on, but the values and virtues that make America great. The honor, courage and integrity. Their sacrifice is born by the families that carry on, who everyday show us what the enduring pride of being an American Gold star family really look like.

The courage to drive forward and give us the gift of a great example. This day belongs to them, to the family’s of the fallen, to those we remember. They did not fall so we could look back. They fell so we could look forward. Freeze united and with resolve. Let us never forget how these Americans died, but more importantly let us never forget how they lived!
