Cheboygan, meet your All-Star.
Breona Novak of Cheboygan Intermediate School is one of Shoe Club Nation’s newest chapter leaders.
She knew in middle school she wanted to be a school social worker, the person a kid could count on.
Today she teaches the lessons on belonging, and she brought a program called Chief-to-Chief to her
school where students look out for one another by name.

Congratulations to Reese Monroe! We are proud to announce that Boyne City Shoe Club member Reese Monroe has been selected as the recipient of the Fran Sorber Spirit of Hope Award. This special award is presented to one Shoe Club Nation member each year. Students are first nominated by their peers, and from those nominations, the Sorber family selects the recipient. It is an incredible honor that recognizes a student who exemplifies the values that Fran Sorber lived every day.

Fran was a remarkable woman whose humility, kindness, generosity, intelligence, and caring spirit touched countless lives. After her recent passing, Shoe Club Nation wanted to ensure her legacy would continue by establishing this award in her honor. We hope every recipient will carry forward the same spirit of hope, compassion, and service that Fran shared with the world.

It was especially meaningful to have Fran’s husband Brig and their daughter Alicia present the award to Reese. Thank you both for helping us celebrate Fran's incredible legacy and for inspiring the next generation of young leaders.

Lansing, this one is for the teacher who already knows.

Not the teacher waiting to be told their students have value. The one who already knows it, and has been waiting for a structure that lets them act on it.

That is who Shoe Club Nation was built for. It started eighteen years ago in a Michigan classroom, when a social studies teacher stopped waiting and started collecting the shoes of people whose lives could show a kid who they might become. The approach worked so well that its founder was named the nation’s Teacher of the Year, and the program is now in schools across the state.
After a highly successful first year, we have accepted a promising group of chapters from across the state into the Year 2 pilot. We are accepting a few more qualified educators, and Lansing is on the list.

Grand Rapids, the shoes are coming to you. In March 2027, a collection eighteen years in the making opens at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Michael Jordan’s shoes. Ruby Bridges’ shoes. Hundreds of pairs, each one donated by someone whose life shows a kid what is possible.

After a highly successful first year, Shoe Club Nation has accepted a promising statewide group of chapters into its Year 2 pilot, and we are accepting a few more qualified educators. We want some of them here. A chapter is simple. A teacher puts a real pair of those shoes in front of a seventh grader, tells the story behind them, and watches the kid realize that value lives in ordinary places too. Then the student writes ten life goals, donates a shoe of their own, and gets to work. Dream big. Set goals. Work hard. Give back.

Every chapter in the pilot group visits the exhibit. Yours would too. It is downtown, and it opens in March.

If you teach in Grand Rapids and this is the program you have always wanted in your building, this is your moment.

Lauren is not only known for her powerful voice and chart-topping songs like You Say and Rescue, but also for her generosity and inspiring spirit.
