Are you hiring a nanny for your summertime childcare or "youth transportation need"? This brand new event, called a "Summer Sitter Social", will be an opportunity for parents/caregivers and their summer sitter/nanny to connect and discuss some caregiving topics. The event will feature Safe Kids Grand Forks community patners coming together to host "stations". All attendees will be given a passport and the parents and sitter can visit the stations pertinent to their child's care needs. Here are some examples:
- Do you have kids attending sporting events? What is the plan for sunscreen or taking water bottles? Does your sitter know the signs of dehydration or a concussion?
- If your sitter is transporting your kids in their car, don't assume they know to use the car seats or even that your seats will fit in their vehicle. Come and have our car seat experts check out the vehicle and car seat fit and teach the sitter how to properly use them.
- A safe sleep environment is important to the prevention of SIDS. Does your sitter know that babies can't sleep in a car seat, swing or inclined device? Stop by this station and learn safe sleep practices.
- How your sitter responds in an emergency will be based much on how well they are trained. Stop by our first aid/CPR basics table and learn some life-saving skills there.
- Screen time? Internet use? Summer activities kids can attend? Can they have friends over or go to other people's homes while the sitter is in charge? These are all important topics to discuss and we will share some exciting summer events for kids to partake in. They'll think they have the "coolest" nanny around!!
- When school is not in session and feeding kids lunch, it is important to have a plan for cooking and fun food ideas. Stop by this station and get some summer tricks and tips to keep the kitchen safe and nutritious.
While these are only a few of the topics that will be covered, we know you will not want to miss this event. Registration is required, but the event is FREE. Festive social refreshments will be served and we will have fun door prizes for those participating in a certain number of our station displays/presentations.
