🔥 This hike is only 1.7 miles…
And it STILL can take you out.
The other day I headed out to Station Cove Falls—one of the most beautiful and accessible waterfall hikes in South Carolina.
Short. Easy. Scenic.
But here’s the problem…
When I first started hiking, I thought staying hydrated just meant drinking more water.
I was wrong.
I ended up dealing with cramps so bad they could’ve left me stranded on the trail.
What I didn’t understand back then is that water alone isn’t enough—especially in South Carolina heat and humidity.
Now, whether it’s a short hike like this… or a 20+ mile day…
I make sure my body is actually prepared.
In this video, I break down:
⚡ Why short hikes can still be dangerous
⚡ Why hydration isn't just water
⚡ How I fuel my body to stay strong on the trail
And yeah… the waterfall doesn’t disappoint either 🌊

💬 Quick question:
Do you prepare differently for short hikes vs long ones?

This hike wasn’t supposed to have a view…
I hiked over 10 miles…
For a trail that’s known for having *no view.*
No big overlook.
No “Instagram moment.”
No payoff waiting at the summit.
At least… that’s what I thought.
Because somewhere along the way, I found something I wasn’t expecting.
About a mile and a half below the top—Bald K**b.
And it had one HECK of a view!
Better than anything I would’ve found at the summit.
It made me realize something…
Sometimes the thing you’re chasing isn’t at the destination.
It’s somewhere along the way.
This trail was listed as 8.5 miles…
…but by the time I was done, it clocked in at 10.3.
And honestly? That just made it better.
Because this one wasn’t about checking off a summit…
It was about discovering something I didn’t even know I was looking for.

I haven’t run across one of these, but if I did I'd be amazed to see it in person.......from a healthy distance!!!
These magnificent animals are rare in the Forest but they are present, as this excellent photo by Dr. Daniel Hanks shows. So far we know of them only in the North Forest - Crotalus horridus, the Timber rattlesnake.
These are fair minded animals who will give warning of their presence and tolerate you being fairly close to them. But beware - they will protect themselves. Keep your eyes open for their unique patterns on the forest floor. Do not move them. Move quietly away and wait. Re-route.
Rattlesnakes are top predators in the ecosystem - we value their presence in the Forest. Help us protect our valuable biodiversity!

I just filmed a 60-second cinematic unboxing of Table Rock Tea Company’s Market Sampler — and y’all, this tea is something special. The moment I opened that custom wooden box, the aroma hit me like a wave of pure comfort.
I tried their Black Oolong first, and no lie… it’s like liquid pumpkin pie in a cup. Smooth, rich, and absolutely heavenly.
