THE BIG ONE
There are two kinds of earthquakes: tectonic and volcanic. Sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries causes tectonic earthquakes. Volcanic earthquakes are caused by rising lava or magma beneath active volcanoes.
We reside in a nation that is vulnerable to natural catastrophes and is situated on the seismically active Pacific "Ring of Fire", a band of volcanoes and fault lines that arcs around the Pacific Ocean's edge and frequently causes earthquakes.
The "Big One", a tectonic earthquake, is a worst-case scenario of a 7.2-magnitude earthquake from the West Valley Line, a 100-kilometer fault that spans through six cities in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.
Earthquakes occur quickly, fiercely, and without notice, but identifying possible dangers and planning can lessen the likelihood of damage, injuries, and loss of life.
Worry not! Because here are some things you should remember to keep yourself safe and sound during an earthquake.
