C.C. Winn Music Program

Yesterday, select CC Winn Jazz band students traveled to Judson HS to audition for a spot in one of two Region Jazz Bands. Students competed against students across 12 5a and 6a schools in the San Antonio and Del Rio area. We are proud to announce that CC Winn Students walked with the MOST number of students who placed in a jazz band than any other school! We had 11 students place in either Jazz Band 1 or 2 and two students come out as alternates. Additionally, 4 students are advancing to Area and have a chance to audition for the TMEA All State Jazz Band on October 7th!

Congrats to all students involved! What a great way to represent our school and Eagle Pass!

I hope you all are having a great weekend.

I wanted to send a sincere thank you to everyone who helped out during our first game of the season. We deeply appreciate your support with passing out water, taking pictures, attending our event, and staying on top of everything to ensure our band students were well taken care of. Your dedication and hard work truly make our jobs much easier.

Thank you again for everything you do for the CC Winn Band program.

Espero que todos estén teniendo un excelente fin de semana.

Quería enviar un sincero agradecimiento a todos los que ayudaron durante nuestro primer juego de la temporada. Apreciamos profundamente su apoyo al repartir agua, tomar fotos y estar al pendiente de todo para asegurar que nuestros estudiantes de la banda estuvieran bien atendidos. Su dedicación y arduo trabajo realmente hacen que nuestros trabajos sean mucho más fáciles.Gracias de nuevo por todo lo que hacen por el programa.

We are excited to announce Mr. Danny Chavera as the new Band Director at Memorial JH.

Mr. Chavera is originally from Dilley, Texas, where he attended Dilley High School. He’s earned distinctions as a four-year ATSSB All-State member and two-time UIL State Solo Ensemble Outstanding Soloist.

Continuing his education, Mr. Chavera graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. During this time, he was a Semi-Finalist in the ITEA Young Artist Tuba contest and a Semi-Finalist in the 2017 SFASU Concerto Competition.

Mr. Chavera started his teaching Career at Carrizo Springs as an Assistant Band and Mariachi Director. Assisting the HS and JH band programs.

After Carrizo Springs, Mr. Chavera moved back home and served as the Head Band Director at Dilley HS where the program has seen consistent sweepstakes in UIL Marching and Concert & Sight-Reading.

Today, we are taking the time to say goodbye to one of our staff members as he starts a new chapter in his life. We would like to thank Mr. Vargas for being a part of our Winn/Memorial music staff for all these years. We look forward to see him grow as the Head Director of Eagle Pass HS. Although we don’t want to lose a staff member, it is only a normal part of life to see someone go out and get more out of life and he is seizing the moment. We would like to wish you, Mr. Vargas, the best of luck in your future endeavors.

This is our second staff member who has come out of our tree to become a head director. We have such an amazing staff as I know there will be more seeking a head director’s position and they will be ready for it! -Head Rod
