Dr. Krishna Udayakumar is the founding Director of the Duke Global Health Innovation Center, focused on generating deeper evidence and support for the study, scaling, and adaptation of health innovations and policy reforms globally. He is also Executive Director of Innovations in Healthcare, a non-profit co-founded by Duke, McKinsey & Company, and the World Economic Forum, leading the organization’s work to curate and scale the impact of transformative health solutions globally.
At Duke University, Dr. Udayakumar holds the rank of Associate Professor of Global Health and Medicine, and is a core faculty member of the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy. He is also Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School Singapore. His work has been published in leading academic journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Health Affairs, and Academic Medicine. He received both an MD and MBA (with a concentration in Health Sector Management) from Duke University, where he was a Fuqua Scholar.

We are so excited to have Dr. Kay Wagoner as one of our judges this weekend at !
Kay Wagoner, Ph.D., founded and served as president and CEO of Icagen Inc., a biopharmaceutical company in RTP. In her time there, she negotiated licenses to technologies from more than two dozen major universities. She also negotiated and led multi-million dollar strategic alliances with six major pharmaceutical companies. She took venture-backed Icagen public on the Nasdaq in 2005 and in 2011, led its acquisition by Pfizer Inc.
Prior to Icagen, Wagoner founded a non-profit cardiovascular company that delivered a broad array of cardiovascular preventive and rehabilitation services. Today, this services company forms a valuable part of the UNC Wellness Center complex. She has held research management positions at Glaxo, where she initiated and led Glaxo’s U.S. ion channel drug discovery efforts in central nervous system, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Wagoner has served on a variety of private, public and nonprofit boards of directors, including the N.C Biotechnology Center Board, the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s Emerging Companies Board, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors and the UNC School of Nursing Foundation Board.

Hello Thinc-ers! As we approach , we would love to introduce one of our judges, Dr. Eric P**n!
Dr. P**n currently serves as the Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) at Duke Medicine and is an internal medicine practitioner at the Durham Medical Center as part of Duke Primary Care. As CHIO, he is responsible for envisioning strategic planning of clinical and analytic information systems that impact patient care, research and education. In support of the Duke mission, he oversees the optimization of Maestro Care (Epic), electronic health record, and partners with physicians, patients and operational leaders to effectively leverage innovative IT at Duke Medicine.
His research interests revolve around the use of health information technology to improve the quality of care and patient safety in both the ambulatory and hospital settings. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, medical degree and masters in public health from Harvard Medical School and the School of Public Health.
We look forward to hosting Dr. P**n and our attendees this weekend!

We are so excited to have Dr. Jean Wright VP, CIO of Atrium Health as our keynote speaker on Friday!
Dr. Jean Wright is responsible for leading the advancement of innovation initiatives throughout Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, as Chief Innovation Officer. Her focus is on working with teams to raise the bar for patient care and population health through human-centered design, business development, and novel medical technologies.
Dr. Wright practiced as a pediatric anesthesiologist and intensivist. She held positions as a physician executive at Emory, chair of pediatrics for Mercer, and executive director for Memorial Health's Children's and Women's Hospital in Savannah, and was Chief Medical Officer for Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast.
She is a health services researcher, has served on federal advisory committees, and has given testimony in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, a medical degree from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Emory's Goizueta School of Business.
