Project HEAL is looking for motivated students interested in public health, medicine, or service to apply to Project HEAL's summer research and educational outreach trip to Honduras in the summer of 2020. This is an established program going strong at Duke for over 10 years, where a small team of students will meet weekly in the Spring semester to construct their own independent research study and health intervention to be carried out on the ground in rural Honduras. Past projects have looked at water contamination, trash disposal, prenatal health, adolescent self esteem, and more. More information can be found in the application!

Hola Project HEAL!

It may not even be winter break, but summer 2020 is quickly approaching! If you are interested in global health, getting experience conducting your own research, collaborating with NGOs, and travelling, consider applying to Project HEAL's summer 2020 Honduras trip! We select around 4 students to travel to Honduras each summer to conduct research and volunteer in a local community for 6-8 weeks. Applications are now open until beginning of January, but we have an earlier priority deadline of December 15. See the attached application for more information!

Our organization works domestically and globally with communities to address heath-related concerns! One of the organizations we work closely with is El Centro Hispano: a Latino nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the community, building bridges and advocating for equity and inclusion for Hispanics/Latinos in the Triangle Area of North Carolina. This semester, we designed a t-shirt in collaboration with El Centro to encourage Duke students to support the Durham Latinx population. Consider getting one because all proceeds go to El Centro Hispano!

Meet a member of the Honduras Team 2019: Anisha Watwe!

I am a sophomore at Duke University in the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and am from Cary, North Carolina. I am pursuing a self-designed, Program II degree in global reproductive and sexual health policy. Specifically, I am interested in global health disparities and am driven to pursue universal health equity for women and underserved populations. Being on the Honduras team this summer will allow me to conduct field research on the issue I am most passionate about while at the same time improving my Spanish-speaking skills. I am also on a competitive Bollywood fusion dance team at Duke and love to draw.
