LASYA FALL 2020 AUDITION INFO!!!
Duke Lasya welcomes those with an interest in Indian classical dance and a willingness to learn! Our members all practice different dance forms, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi. We are always excited to welcome other forms as well!
We're having 2 rounds of auditions in the Fall 2020 semester and offering two options of online submission:
Round 1: August 11, 2020
Round 2: August 22, 2020
Submission Options:
1. Submit a video of a past performance or a piece you already know (Round 1 and 2)
2. Learn a piece from us over zoom and send us a video (Round 2 only)

Featuring: Tanmayi Vashist
Tan is a junior pursuing a major in Biology and minors in Bioinformatics and Global Health. She is currently interested in applying bioinformatics towards the development of precision medicine. In her free time, she loves to spend time with friends, laze around with a book or Netflix, and DANCE! She is extremely grateful for the creativity Lasya inspires and the people who have become like family :)

Devi is a junior studying neuroscience with a minor in global health. She loves being on Lasya because of the opportunity to learn and integrate different forms of classical dance with people who share the same love for dance as her.

Aditi is a junior studying biomedical and electrical engineering. She is particularly interested in the overlap between global women’s health and engineering. Aditi loves being on Lasya because the team brings together many different styles of classical Indian dance with some modern elements to create something unique!

Priya is a first year undergraduate majoring in electrical engineering. Some of her hobbies include playing the piano, reading, and of course dance (both Indian classical and ballet). Priya loves being on Lasya because “it gives me the chance to interact with incredible people to do something we all love.”

Hi everyone, we're so excited for the new year! Here are our audition times for the semester:
Tuesday 9/4 6-10 pm at Ruby
Thursday 9/6 6-10 pm at Ruby
We'll all be learning a new piece, and if you'd like, feel free to bring a one minute solo with you. Email your music to [email protected] before hand.
To get to the Ruby, get off at the intersection between Anderson and Campus Drive. If you're coming from East, get off after the Nasher stop.

Featuring: Uma Rao
Uma is a freshman from San Jose, California who has been learning classical dance since she was 5. She enjoys Bharatanatyam as she finds it invigorating and allows her to express her Indian culture. She wants to thank her gurus, family, and friends for supporting her and her love of dance. Being part of Lasya has been one her favorite parts of her first year at Duke and she is beyond excited for her first showcase!

Lakshmi is a graduate student at The Fuqua School of Business. She started learning Bharatanatyam when she was ten, but took a eight year hiatus and now is really excited to be dancing Bharatanatyam again! Dancing helps her stay rooted and happy, and she is looking forward to sharing the art at Showcase!
