We are so thrilled a talented group of MIDS students were asked to be guest lecturers at Duke University's COMPSCI 526: Data Science class! Luopeiwen Yi, Kian Bagherlee, Huang, Afraa Noureen, and Yang Li, did an amazing job on exploring the complexities of Alzheimer's disease progression. Their presentation bridged clinical insights and topological analysis, providing a comprehensive view on tackling this challenging condition.

The group presented their project and its potential benefit to both providers and patients: “Automating Medical Care Guidelines for Patients Using LLMs with RAG Functionality.” Once again, data science students doing some really amazing work!

Nothing better than a field trip! Earlier this month MIDS students, who are focusing on a quant finance concentration, hit the streets of Chicago in an effort to develop a deep appreciation of how their data science skills are used in practice. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our program, we want to expose our students to sectors of industry and society in which they desire to learn more and build their future careers. Thank you for hosting us: Adams Street Partners, CME Group, Clearing Corp, Cboe Global Markets.

It’s not all work and no play! MIDSter Barbara Flores is currently finishing her internship at Meta in Reality Labs with the XR Tech DS team. Although she is based in Burlingame, CA, she had the opportunity to participate in the team’s offsite event in Redmond, WA, during one of the first weeks of her internship. This event allowed team members from different cities to come together, build connections, share project results, and rethink strategies. This opportunity significantly improved her onboarding process, helped build connections with the team, and made the work on her internship project more seamless. Barbara is picture hanging with her team at an afternoon of bowling.
