We as parents can foster independence by meeting a child’s needs for dependence… The western way of thinking was that we needed to push a child away in order to encourage their independence. That by forcing them to be “independent“, they would learn autonomy. This only creates a kind of fragile independence, where children cannot express their needs for intimacy or help because they no longer realize they have needs. An individual with this kind of fragile independence is known as having an avoidant attached personality type, someone who is so fearful of being hurt by others, that they deeply believe that they do not need others.

Instead, let’s meet our children where they are. They show us what they need: their needs for closeness, for attachment. Let’s believe our children. When we meet their needs for closeness deeply, this builds an extremely secure foundation upon which they can build a securely attached personality. And when we meet fear or resistance around meeting our child’s needs, let’s consider that this is perhaps our own inner child, who didn’t have their needs met, who feels threatened by the possibility that things could have been different. Let’s include our inner child in the love and support as we love toward a more whole and connected understanding of love.

En tant que parents, nous pouvons favoriser l'indépendance en répondant aux besoins de dépendance d'un enfant… La façon de penser occidentale était que nous devions repousser un enfant afin d'encourager son indépendance. En les forçant à être "indépendants", ils apprennent l'autonomie. Cela ne fait que créer une indépendance fragile, où les enfants ne peuvent pas exprimer leurs besoins d'intimité ou d'aide parce qu'ils ne réalisent plus qu'ils ont des besoins. La personnalité d’un individu avec ce type d’indépendance fragile se caractérise par attachement évitant, quelqu’un qui a toujours peur d’être blessé par les autres et qu’il croit profondément qu'il n'a pas besoin des autres.

Au lieu de cela, rencontrons nos enfants là où ils sont. Ils nous montrent ce dont ils ont besoin : leurs besoins de proximité, d'attachement. Croyons nos enfants. Lorsque nous répondons profondément à leurs besoins de proximité, cela apporte un socle extrêmement sûre sur leque ils peuvent se construire une personnalité solide. Et lorsque nous rencontrons de la peur ou de la résistance pour répondre aux besoins de notre enfant, considérons que c'est peut-être notre propre enfant intérieur, qui n'a pas vu ses besoins satisfaits, qui se sent menacé par la possibilité que les choses auraient pu être différentes. Incluons notre enfant intérieur dans l'amour et le soutien que nous donnons et marchons vers une compréhension plus aboutit.

19 months into motherhood, and here I am. Change is a river of potential. I am still deeply passionate about s*x, magick, relationships, and s*xuality as a healing tool. More and more I’m also feeling a call into harnessing s*xuality to help mothers love in their power and follow their instincts. Most of the challenges I encounter as a mother are in regards to external factors, such as lack of support as a result of lack of understanding or education. I’m going to be posting in French as well as English to offer support to other mothers out there who are looking for a voice of compassion and reason in an often insane global society. ✨🌙 What’s your biggest challenge, or alternately, your favorite thing you’ve unlearned in your journey of radical self-love and self-acceptance? 🤍

Humans are a « carry » species, meaning they are biologically wired to stay close to their mother’s body throughout the day - to feed, to sleep, and to seek comfort and equilibrium.
So why are so many mothers shamed into thinking that they’re doing something wrong when they follow their biologically hardwired instincts?
