#DurhamBeyondPolicing is a grassroots formation to divest from policing and prisons and reinvest our local budgets into community safety, wellness and care.

#DurhamBeyondPolicing: A call to action put forth by Southerners on New Ground (NC), and the Durham chapter of the Black Youth Project 100

We as members of the Durham community fully oppose the multi-million dollar expansion of policing and criminalization in our neighborhoods. We want the city of Durham to divest from police and prisons and instead fund black futures and invest in black and br

📣 Tell the Durham City Council NO to expanding surveillance in our city, NO to wasting taxpayer dollars!

📍 The next council meeting is this Monday, June 1st - 7pm at 101 City Hall Plaza, Durham, NC. We need community members showing up to let the council know that continuing to pour millions into surveillance is unacceptable. Please give public comment. You can signup in advance at tinyurl.com/durham-public-comment or arrive at 6:30pm to sign-up in-person. If you cannot speak please email your comments beforehand.

💵 Budgets are moral documents, continuing to invest more into policing instead of the people that make this city function is a shame. Our money should be prioritizing paying workers a livable wage, invest more into housing & other gaps our people desperately need support navigating.

❌ NO to more policing & ✅ YES to our people!

Israel’s ongoing deliberate starvation of over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza has created famine conditions that grow increasingly dire. Deaths continue to rise at an alarming rate. The U.S., despite having the power to stop the famine, continues to unabashedly support and permit the Israeli government to starve Gaza. We must respond with renewed, escalated action and calls for immediate restoration of the flow of humanitarian aid, and an end to the genocide.

Durham Beyond Policing joins the Triangle chapter of Jewish Voices for Peace in a rolling solidarity fast and calls for Senator Thom Tillis to use his power as the chair of the Senate Human Rights Caucus to:

1. Vote to support S.Res.224 and SB898 to restore funding for UNRWA and deliver urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza, and
2. Prevent future weapons sales to Israel.

We are all obligated to speak up and cry out: LET GAZA LIVE.

Join us in taking action and/or joining our ongoing solidarity fast at the link in bio or: jvptriangle.org/letgazalive
