On the Blog: How to Make a Hypertufa Planter, by Marcia Kirinus, NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteer

Hypertufa is a lightweight, manmade, frost-resistant material that is molded to make outdoor planting vessels, garden art, and even outdoor pizza ovens given its high heat tolerance. You can make it yourself! Hypertufa ingredients are typically portland cement, peat moss (or coco fiber), perlite (or vermiculite), and water.

Marcia Kirinus offers detailed instructions on creating hypertufa, illustrated with photographs, in the latest edition of our blog. Looks like fun!

Our master gardener neighbors in Orange County are holding their Plant Fest tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 am - 2 pm. Though rain is in the forecast, currently they plan to go ahead with the event.
