Hello educators!
Here's a fantastic PD opportunity this summer for thinking about racial justice and early math- I've been doing a fellowship with this group all year, and the way they're thinking about math and justice is very aligned with Reggio-Inspired teaching. It's in Chicago in June, hope you'll join me there! Reach out with any questions...

NAREA Summer Conference will be in Atlanta- info below!

Plan to join us for the 19th NAREA Summer Conference, July 13–15 in Atlanta, GA.

Registration opening soon.

When asked about the NAREA conference one participant responded,
[The contributions of the speakers were] “meaningful and inspirational. It’s so important to work with bigger thinking (conceptual, social justice, changing the world and how we think, perceive, and engage) as the educational system and dominant thinking is so instrumentalized. My work has been motivated by change thinking and process based practices for decades. I feel like I’ve met kindred spirits, and there is a place for my practice and the way I think. This is like coming home somehow.”

Are there educators who need to develop a distance learning program for their students? If so, we're happy to support a discussion of how to do this with a Reggio mindset. Just comment below if you are interested.

Thinking of all our teachers across the State tonight, as I know we are both exposed to lots of people in our work and trying to navigate our own personal feelings about COVID-19 and the feelings of our students and families. Wondering if it would be helpful to share resources for children and families on this thread? I will also post another thread to start sharing ideas if you need to create a distance learning program for your children.

We're sorry that the ASK Conference will not take place this year. However, we look forward to coordinating a thread for next year's conference and hope you will join us!

We regret to announce that the 2020 Advancing Skills and Knowledge (ASK) Conference, scheduled for this Saturday, March 14, 2020, is canceled and will not be rescheduled this year. CCSA is sad to cancel this statewide learning event for early childhood educators, but the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System informed us on March 10 that they were unable to honor our rental agreement due to scheduling changes. Despite our long-standing relationship, we will not have access to the building.

To the more than 900 registrants, exhibitors, volunteers, and presenters, we hope you will join us at the conference in the future. We will refund all registration fees within 6-8 weeks. Thank you for your support and understanding!

We are organizing a thread for the ASK Conference again this year! Register early as last year this thread was sold out! Group Registration ends January 25th. Let us know if we will see you there!

While in Reggio Emilia a year and a half ago, we learned about the Piazza Piazze project (mentioned in the previous post) and we wondered, what if we could do something similar with all the amazing educators we have encountered during our work on the Wonder of Learning project. This wondering inspired us to develop our next initiative, an umbrella project for early childhood educators across North Carolina that simultaneously provides professional development for educators, elevates the quality of experience for young children in their respective programs, and makes visible the strong potential of all children. Are you ready to learn more?

Our Story

The NC Reggio Emilia Collaborative was formed by a group of North Carolina educators after hosting The Wonder of Learning, the traveling exhibit from Reggio Emilia, in 2017. The title and focus of our Wonder of Learning initiative in North Carolina was Cultivating the Strong Potential of All Children: Growing a Community Vision for Education. Through this project, many valuable connections and partnerships formed, laying the groundwork for future collaborations. Thus our Wonder of Learning host committee established the NC Reggio Emilia Collaborative to reflect the importance of a shared vision for education as well as to create energy, conversation, and action around how we as a community wish to cultivate the strong potential of all children.
