Teacher spotlight on Edye Disner.

Edye Disner was born and raised in Memphis, TN. This was where she first heard the beautiful sound of mixing the tiles - her mother played mahjong. Edye learned to play with some friends in Atlanta 16 years ago. She has been playing with 3 of the same women regularly since! She taught her niece and nephew how to play mahjong in 2016, and they are both avid players.

In 2025, Edye was asked to teach a group of women to play, and it was then that she realized her career as an educator was the perfect background for sharing the love of the game. Thanks to Marni Mahj, Edye teaches regularly now. She approaches teaching mahjong with warmth and patience. Her students find her encouraging and fun!

Edye teaches mahjongg according to National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules and is comfortable with all ages (6 years old is the youngest she’s taught.… so far).
