Major Category 5 Hurricane Milton Update:
1. The new track comes out at 11pm. I wouldn't be surprised it we see another subtle nudge to the South. But in general, things should stand pat.
2. Regardless of track, this is an extremely powerful hurricane. The surge will be highest just to the South of where the eye crosses the coast. It is very possible if the track goes well to the South of the Bay, we could see a "reverse surge" which could drain much of Tampa Bay itself.
3. The Northern eyewall will be hovering across Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco counties. This will give rough weather (heavy rain with winds 65 to 90) late evening and overnight. Massive power outages are expected.
5. I'll have another update after 11 with the new track. As for Florida State University and Florida A&M University, they'll be fine. University of Florida should be ok as well. University of Central Florida University of South Florida and The University of Tampa will get hurricane-force winds. UT is under mandatory evacuation so my gut is, that most have left. Florida Gulf Coast University will be on the fringe of the rough stuff unless the track goes South.
