Truly an amazing day! We had over 90 Battle Grove families come shop the School Supply and More Pick Up Event - in memory of Sweet Piper!

This event could not be possible without the help from the fantastic Laura Vandervort and her incredible supply drive. Not only have community members, families, and friends, and staff members near and far supported, we also had local businesses Pat's Pizzeria MD Merritt Blvd, Maryland State Highway Administration, and more!

If you didn’t make it out, no worries. We still have supplies. You can contact [email protected] for pickup, the supplies will be available at Sneak-a-Peek on August 28 at 2:45pm.

We will continue to work together to make sure our students have what they need for the first day on August 31!

You know the old saying “it takes a village,” well… OUR village is incredible. Thank you to our amazing teachers, staff, and neighborhood families for donating items, time, and hard work so that our students can start the year off right! More Wonderful News! Long read but WORTH the good vibes! 😎 💙

Laura Vandervort, an amazing member of the Battle Grove Community, has spearheaded a "Gift of Giving for the Kids."

Early summer, I noticed Laura was giving away a few things here and there that would be great for Attendance Incentives for the students. I contacted her via Facebook and requested to pick up the items. Well, little did I know, boxes of hats, gloves, mittens, shirts, socks, etc. have been holding space in her home just waiting for the opportunity to be shared. Talk about fate! Ms. Deb and I hopped in the truck and gathered over 150 pairs of gloves, hats, and countless items that would surely put a smile on the faces of our students.

That day we truly met an angel on earth and learned the "why" behind Laura's generous heart.

Laura's puppy and best friend, Piper, crossed the rainbow bridge last year. Piper was a beacon of light for Laura, her family, and many of the BGE passers by. Piper would rest in the front yard, happily great students and families as they walked by, and give everyone a reason to smile! Laura decided that all of the money and time she dedicated to Piper would live on through donations, acts of kindness, and connections.

Fast forward just a few days and Laura sprung into action. What started as a brown box on her front porch evolved into countless donations from the community, an Amazon Wishlist, anonymous donors, community business connections, and a home filled with school supplies.

Not only is Laura opening her home to collect these resources, but she is also shopping, sharing resources and local sales, and even shared an abundance of dog and cat donations to a local animal rescue "Kuddles & Kisses" https://www.facebook.com/share/p/193NnuNk9j/?

We are planning a school supply pickup event for families and would appreciate your help.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with:

💙Bringing donations from Ms. Laura’s house to the school.

💙Setting up tables, organizing supplies, and prepackaging backpacks

Date: August 5 and 6
Time: 9:00am -12pm.
