Magic in the woods! 🌿✨

Inspired by land artists like Andy Goldsworthy, upper school art students in our Sculpture and Installation class visited our on-campus creek and crafted their own nature art! They used creek rocks, gathered ferns, leaves, wildflowers and berries to create a swirling, interactive installation right on the bridge. The hope is our K-4 Forest School students might discover and interact with it. Maybe they'll deconstruct it? Maybe they'll add to it? This art is supposed to change! 🖤💛

Academic Preview Night 2026!

Last night we welcomed families into our halls and classrooms for a glimpse into the academic journey ahead. Community members walked through student schedules, engaged with faculty members, and explored the curriculum that will shape the growth of each student.

How did you celebrate National Voter Registration Day? 🗳️

Marshall School hosted Secretary of State Steve Simon in a statewide nonpartisan virtual event meant to encourage civic engagement.

Marshall Upper School principal Megan Perry-Spears, music faculty Grant Studer, and Marshall senior Isaac Ballmer all took the podium. They were joined by Duluth East student Tinsae Opheim and Emilia Nephew from Stella Maris Academy.

This is the second annual event of its kind, and Marshall School was proud to play host this year! 🖤💛

Today, on September 11, our school community paused for a moment of silence to honor and remember. It is in this spirit of coming together that we begin a year-long celebration of "New Beginnings" and diverse cultural traditions, from Diwali to Lunar New Year.

We kicked things off this week with Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year. 🌼

Students in the Forest School tried Eskista and Guruage dancing with Baamlak and Ms. Bettina, middle school students learned about Ethiopian language and culture from Marshall parent Kalkidan Bishu, and today we enjoyed a traditional Ethiopian beef stew for lunch. Here's to honoring history, learning together, and celebrating community! 🖤💛

Quick! Tell us everything you know about Minnesota! 🌲

Mr. KJ's 6th graders compared notes about our home-state yesterday. As you can imagine, they talked about loons, lakes, the State Fair and the Mall of America. But these students are about to learn so much more about the history of our state, as they enter into a year of learning about our indigenous heritage, the voyageurs, and how Minnesota became a state. 🖤💛

We've heard from our 9th graders at Camp Menogyn and all is well! 🛶🌲

This is an annual trip for each Marshall School ninth-grade class. Our students head to the Boundary Waters for canoeing, camping, and class-bonding. Thanks to Tony Lockhart, who came out of retirement to take this trip with our students and share these images! 📸

After finding a roly-poly bug last week, our second graders wanted to know more about these isopods. Teacher Dana Gilbertson is leaning into their interest, guiding students as they research and fill a classroom aquarium with, you guessed it, roly-poly bugs! The Class of '27 paddled under clear blue skies with Day Tripper of Duluth . They set off from Pebble Beach and kayaked near Split Rock Lighthouse. This was an unforgettable way for our seniors to start their year together! 🖤💛

Students are already diving into the fundamentals of print journalism by taking a look at regional and national newspapers, dissecting layouts, and learning what it takes to organize a publication.
