Caregiving is often talked about in terms of responsibility, sacrifice, and showing up for others.

What isn't talked about enough is the person doing the caring.

Their exhaustion.
Their resilience.
Their need for support, rest, and care of their own.

That's why First Care for ME is such an important collection. Through personal stories and reflections, it creates space for Black daughter caregivers to be seen—not only for what they do, but for who they are.

I'm grateful to have contributed alongside so many powerful voices in a project that centers both caregiving and self-preservation.

This one means a lot to me.

I am proud to be a contributing writer in First Care for ME, an anthology that shares the stories, challenges, and self-preservation strategies of Black daughter caregivers. It is a powerful and necessary work, and I feel truly grateful to be part of something that gives voice to such important experiences.

Caregivers give so much of themselves, often quietly and consistently. This project is a reminder that their care matters, and so does their healing. I thank God for the opportunity to contribute to something that carries both compassion and purpose.

💜Caregivers… this one is for YOU. 💜

So often, you are the strong one.
The helper. The encourager. The one everyone depends on.

But who is caring for YOU?

Today, take a moment to pause…
To breathe…
To check in with your own heart.

You deserve rest.
You deserve support.
You deserve grace.

Caring for others is a calling, but caring for yourself is a necessity.

Let this be your reminder:
You cannot pour from an empty cup.

✨ Take the break
✨ Say yes to help
✨ Choose YOU, too

Because when the caregiver is cared for…
EVERYONE is stronger.

Today is a beautiful reminder that each day is a gift from GOD, filled with new opportunities, blessings, and the chance to grow. Embracing this moment allows us to reflect on HIS grace and goodness in our lives.

When we acknowledge that GOD has crafted this day, we find joy and purpose in even the smallest things. It encourages us to live intentionally, appreciating the blessings around us and sharing that joy with others.

Long-distance caregiving is a unique journey filled with both profound love and significant challenges. It often begins with the unsettling feeling of receiving emergency alerts in the middle of the night. That jolt of adrenaline, the heart racing as you scan your phone for updates about a loved one miles away, can be overwhelming.

😣 Watching over family members or friends through cameras, while comforting in some ways, can also amplify feelings of helplessness. You see their struggles and daily routines, and while technology allows you to stay connected, it doesn’t replace the warmth of being there in person. The need to balance your own life with the demands of caregiving can create an emotional rollercoaster, where moments of joy are often mixed with anxiety.

✈️ Frequent trips back and forth can be exhausting, both physically and mentally. Each visit is filled with love, but it also brings the stress of travel logistics and the emotional weight of leaving again. The time spent away can feel like a tug-of-war between your responsibilities at home and the urgent needs of your loved one.

🏦 The financial impact of long-distance caregiving can be significant. Travel costs, potential lost wages, and additional expenses for care services add up quickly. This burden can lead to stress and anxiety, making it even harder to focus on your well-being.

⚖️With all these challenges, how do you find balance? Sharing experiences can be a source of support. How do you manage the emotional ups and downs? What strategies have you found helpful in navigating this complex role?

🫂Connecting with others who understand can provide solace. Whether through online forums, support groups, or community organizations, knowing you’re not alone can make a big difference.

🗣️If you’re a long-distance caregiver, what has your journey been like? How do you cope with the challenges? Let’s share our stories and support one another through this demanding yet rewarding path. Your experiences could provide vital insight and encouragement for someone else in a similar situation.

Caregiving can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. It teaches us patience, resilience, and the true meaning of connection. Remember to take time for yourself, too! Self-care is not a luxury; it’s essential. 🧘‍♀️✨

Let’s take a moment to appreciate all caregivers today. Share your stories, tag a caregiver you admire, or simply give a shoutout to those who give so much. Your efforts don’t go unnoticed!

💪❤️
