Dr. Margaret S. Collins was the first African American woman to earn a PhD in entomology as well as an activist for freedom in the Civil Rights Movement. Also, third African American female zoologist.

Dr. Collins identified a new species of termite found in Florida called Neotermes luykxi. Because of her amazing work and contributions she earned the name “Termite Lady”.

❤️ Keeping Hearts Beating❤️

Mr. Otis Boykin was an inventor and engineer.

When inventing the resistors, he observed how it slowed the flow of electricity and allowed a safe amount of electricity to move through a device.

Mr. Boykin invented about 26 electronic devices and earned 11 patents. Boykin’s inventions included a chemical air filter, a burglar-proof cash register, and an improved electrical resistor. Versions of his resistor were soon used in radios, televisions, computers, and guided missiles.

Mr. Boykin invented a control unit for the pacemaker, a device implanted in the body to help the heart beat normally. Boykin's invention allowed the pacemaker to be more precisely regulated.

Mr. Boykin attended Fisk College in Nashville, Tennessee and continued his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

🎥🍿Let’s See A 3D Movie 🎥🍿

Valerie Thomas is an American scientist (NASA Physicist) and inventor who patented the illusion transmitter in 1980.

After attending a scientific conference and seeing an illusion that involved concave mirrors, Ms. Thomas became very interested and began her research.

Her invention, the illusion transmitter grew out of her experimentation with concave mirrors. You could call it early 3D technology. Her invention transmits an optical illusion of a 3D image between concave mirrors that looks real on the receiving end.

Ms. Thomas work made the picture jump out of the screen and NASA continues to use her technology to this day.

🚀Blast Off 🚀

Dr. Patricia S. Cowings is an Aeropace psychophysiologist and inventor.

Dr. Cowings is the first woman to be trained as a NASA scientist astronaut and in 1997, invented the Autogenic-Feedback Training systems and methods, which can be used to help humans voluntarily control 24 bodily reactions including breathing, heart rate and sweating.

Dr. Patricia S. Cowings, has spent years studying the physiological effects that being in space has on the human body which has helped many astronauts adapt to space.

🚨Ring the alarm🚨

Marie Van Brittan Brown was a nurse who became the inventor of the first home security system.

In 1966, Marie Brown and Albert Brown (husband/electronic tech) designed a closed-circuit security system that monitored visitors using camera and projected their images onto a television monitor. Her design also included a panic button to contacted the police immediately, remote control to open/close doors, and a communication system to talk to people.

Marie Brown was awarded her patent on December 2, 1969 and received cognition in the New York Times.

Her invention has inspired many versions of home security systems and many have cited the Brown patent for their own devices.
