Every day is Earth Day at PFA. We spend a lot of time out in our community, and we carry gloves and bags in our travel backpack at all times. We strive to instill in our students to leave a place looking better than when you found it. We have constant conversations about the importance of taking care of our earth- we only get one! We clean up our neighborhood parks and playgrounds regularly, and keep our creek clean. We have been going the extra mile to be earth heroes this week- we made masks to make it super official 😉
To celebrate earth day today we not only cleaned up the neighborhood some more, but we made beeswax wrap and we turned T-shirts into bags to reduce waste in our homes!
We can be the change!
Take care of our mother 🌎 ☮️ 💙🌳💚🪻

A trip to UMD meant exploring the campus and a visit to the Planetarium to end Space Week at preschool. ✨ What serendipity to have the astronauts return to Earth on the same day! Our preschoolers are absolutely invested in learning about space and full of knowledge. They were so proud to be able to tell the planetarium staff the order of the planets- and the names of the dwarf planets! 🪐

With the right supplies, tools, supervision and a tad bit of guidance - these kids are CAPABLE. Some beautiful spring wreaths were made in our classroom this week.

Some great teamwork, problem solving, and communication happened today. We set our traps and lured the leprechaun in with dandelion tea, which is their favorite, and some fake gold Despite our best efforts, the leprechaun escaped. Larry O’Toodles left us a scavenger hunt where we ended with finding rainbow 🌈 salad and chocolate coins! So overall, we still won. ☘️💚 Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

DPFAE has 2 full time spots open for fall of 2026 and some part time availability!
We provide a well rounded program where children get classroom experience, but the city is our jungle gym! We go to weekly swimming lessons at the YMCA, we hike the trails of Chester creek, we take field trips all over town and have many classroom visitors. We believe children are the most valuable members of society, and by immersing ourselves in the community we learn how to be good community members. We also introduce art in many forms- not just in paint and drawing but in acting, ballet, tap, lyrical and more!
Our classroom learning is play based, and we work on self-help skills and social emotional wellbeing so that your child can walk into kindergarten feeling confident and ready!
If you would like to learn more, email [email protected]
We look forward to playing, exploring, and growing together.

Playing in the snow is actually helping your child grow! Here’s how:
It enhances physical and cognitive development! Moving in the snow gets muscles involved that aren’t put to use as much in other seasons. Core strength gets such a good workout through navigating the uneven ground, the ice, the hills, the higher steps to be able to walk. And in what other season do we walk up a hill as many times as we do when we are pulling a sled up the hill? (Encourage them to do this! It’s so good for them!!!) The more your child moves around independently in the snow the stronger their core will be!
All of this intense physical activity will inadvertently help your child in academia! Students who have a strong core don’t have to expend energy or constantly think about sitting at a desk. It is a well-known phenomenon that this is something many young people struggle with these days, to the point of even falling out of the chairs at school.
Brian function is also enhanced during snow play. They are moving their bodies in complex physical ways, and that requires brain power! So their bodies and brains are getting a workout at the same time- how cool is that?!
Snow play also enhances creativity. Snow castles, snow people and all kinds of construction happen with snow. Children have to use critical thinking and problem solving skills, too! Is the snow wet? Heavy? Can it be packed? Is it light and fluffy?
The snow is a blank canvas open for creativity to flow, it works our brains and bodies…. SNOW IS MAGIC ❄️✨
(And a visit with the worlds friendliest dog is a cherry on top ♥️ we love our neighbor dog, Gracie)
