The Pennsylvania FFA Alumni Association is accepting donations for the FFA jacket scholarship program. Last year, the state raised enough money to sponsor over 1,000 jackets with 24 of those jacket donations coming to us during Mid-Winter Convention at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. This gave 24 of our FFA members the opportunity of receiving a free FFA jacket, one of the first steps in their FFA journey and career. As an FFA chapter and as a part of Pennsylvania FFA, we are looking for sponsors to support our new students for this year! Right now, we had 28 students apply for their first year jacket and want to support our students! If you are interested in sponsoring a jacket, you can donate to support a jacket for our chapter by reaching out to Mr. Witmer or go to: https://paffa.org/about-alumni Jackets See the letter in the comments to learn more from the Pennsylvania Alumni Association. We had an awesome day at the Pennsylvania FFA Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) with these first-year members! Students participated in team building and FFA knowledge leadership workshops. Seeing the passion of these students today shows that we have a bright future for our chapter! Yesterday, we had 25 students attended our Area Wildlife and Forestry Career Development Event (CDE) at the Pennsylvania Lumberman Museum. Students participated in a variety of activities and competitions in wildlife ID, tree ID, tree measuring, and more! Thank you to the Lumberman Museum, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and DCNR helping us with the event and educating our students through competition. Last night, 6 of our students attended the McKean, Potter, and Cameron County Farm Bureau annual fall dinner. This is a great opportunity for our students to interact with local community members and farmers to hear about current issues and challenges facing agriculture. We have had a great start to the year! Our students have been busy with a variety of activities, different projects, and FFA meetings. Our pre-finished poinsettias and cyclamen have arrived and have been transplanted, we participated in National Teach Ag Day breakout challenge, held a few FFA meetings, and our students got to see the reward of their hard work in spring of planting pumpkins behind the greenhouse to picking them today!

The last highlight, our new Dual Enrollment Plant Science course started their first unit with understanding plants in our lives and the value of green spaces. For that, our students completed a lab where they created their own succulent gardens that sits at their desk for every class. A fun lab learning about succulents and caring for their new desk planters for every class!

This is what it is all about! Last night was the final step to the students livestock projects, McKean County Fair Junior Livestock Sale. Students interacted with buyers, networked with community members, and made lasting connections! All the hardwork paid off with all Otto-Eldred FFA animals selling for over $25,300! We cannot be more grateful for everyone who came out to support our students. A special thanks to Sarah Beaver for the pictures!

Yesterday was day three of the McKean County Fair and is always one of our favorites! Students compete in the swine and sheep show for fitting and showmanship. Later in the day, students signed up for the senior livestock showmanship challenge. Our students continue to represent our chapter, school, and community so well! We could not be more proud of them! Swine Show 19+:
Jaidyn Goodman placed 1st in fitting and 1st in showmanship in the advanced class.

Swine Show 15-18:
Colby Wilcox placed 4th in fitting (overall) and 4th in showmanship (overall).

Our students have been out making connections with members in our community to try and find buyers. Buyers are important to help support our students projects! In total, we will have 1 steer, 12 pigs, and 3 lambs participating in the fair for our chapter!

There is 1 feeder class pig and 2 feeder class lambs that unfortunately did not make the minimum weight to participate in the livestock auction. These students have worked hard on their projects and are now eagerly looking for a buyer. If you are interested, please reach out to Mr. Witmer or Mrs. Gould.

Don’t forget to check out some of our displays that we have around the fairgrounds too! Including our Rustic Duck Display in the wildlife building!
