Celebrating Sukkot-Feast of Tabernacles

There is so much meaning in this holiday. Seven days are set aside to remember when the Israelites dwelled in the wilderness…foreshadowing when Jesus would come to “tabernacle” with us.

And the prophet Zechariah stated: “And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.” Zechariah 14:16

Most new homeschoolers begin the journey with fear and trepidation. We’re venturing mostly untrained into territory that has been reserved for certified experts for a hundred years.

But what happened over a hundred years ago? Two hundred, three hundred, four hundred years ago? Before teaching colleges and education degrees?

Children still learned to read, write, and think. And with those basic skills, they learned everything else. The ability to read is the foundation. The great works of world history provide the rest: literature, science, philosophy, and religion. Read them. Study them. Copy them. Prove them.

It sounds complicated, but really it’s the education bureaucrats who are making everything complicated. People were educating children with this basic method for centuries. It still works.

Moms and Dads, don’t underestimate your ability. The first year might feel scary, but I have a very good feeling that you’ll soon have enough confidence to be the expert teacher that your children need. Just be patient, get to know how your children learn, open your mind, pray, and enjoy the ride.
