Excited (and a little humbled) to open the 2026 Bridge Institute tomorrow for the Clark County School District. (5th largest school district in the country.)
For the last several months, I’ve been building a keynote around a simple question:
Have you ever known exactly what to do… and still not done it?
The deeper I went, the more I realized this isn’t just a student question. It’s a human question.
Tomorrow we’ll explore how the conditions around us influence our state, our access, and ultimately our results.
Looking forward to sharing some stories, a few hard-earned lessons, and hopefully a couple of ideas that help make the invisible visible.
Regulation Before Results: A Multi-Tiered Approach to Adult Regulation and Capacity
Let’s go!

Something interesting has happened in my work with schools over the last few years.
First, I realized we’ve told teachers to build relationships for decades…
But we’ve rarely taught them how to intentionally create connection.
We value connection.
We don’t design for it.
Then another revelation surfaced.
We redirect behavior…
Before we regulate nervous systems.
We communicate…
Before we stabilize.
And then we’re surprised when situations escalate.
The sequence matters.
Connection before compliance.
Regulation before redirection.
Most school challenges aren’t effort problems.
They’re order-of-operations problems.
This is the work I’ve been refining — revealing blind spots, reframing how leaders see them, and helping schools redesign systems so they can operate the way they’re meant to: to teach and to learn.
As districts begin planning for next year, I’ve opened a limited number of keynote dates for 2026–2027.
If you know a campus or district that’s rethinking connection, regulation, or school stability, feel free to reach out or make an introduction.
Grateful for the journey.

Here’s a clear, share-ready explanation you can post with the image.
This image shows what schools are being asked to do—and what actually works.
On one side, you see chaos: fires, overwhelm, dysregulation, urgency, and constant reaction. This is where many schools are operating right now—trying to lead, teach, and manage behavior while the system itself is unstable.
On the other side, you see clarity: calm students, grounded adults, intentional practices, and sustainable systems. Not because problems disappeared—but because regulation came first.
The person in the center isn’t rescuing or fixing. He’s stabilizing.
That’s the point.
You don’t move schools forward by reacting harder, pushing more initiatives, or demanding better behavior from dysregulated people.
You move schools forward by regulating first, creating clarity, and then building connection and accountability on solid ground.
The message is simple:
Dysregulated systems can’t produce regulated outcomes.
Stability isn’t the result of effort—it’s the result of the right sequence.
This image represents the work of helping schools move
from reactivity → regulation,
from chaos → clarity,
from survival → sustainability.

Spending the day observing students and staff for needs assessment.
Revealing the root causes of their biggest challenges as a campus and developing strategies to deal with those issues.

Love this!
Great principals don't just walk the halls—they build relationships in them.
