Greens 'n' Things Urban Farm

Greens 'n' Things Urban Farm Converting empty lots to valuable garden space in St. Petersburg, FL with a focus on lettuces, baby greens and root veggies for local families and restaurants.

I’ve been interested in growing my own food for a while now, thinking it’d be neat to be self-sustainable and operate a small farm for a living. Unfortunately, the realities of a farmer are not the same as the utopian vision I had. Land is expensive, equipment and maintenance are expensive, and the economies of scale do not operate by the same rules for farmers as other manufacturers. And so it’s

over before you even start. These are huge burdens to overcome for a new farmer, and are the reasons the average age of a U.S. farmer is now 58 years and continues to rise. There are many different approaches to farming, but nothing I’d come across fit my context of urban living in the most densely populated county in Florida. If you look hard enough though, you can find just about anything. Let’s eliminate the barriers to entry... I’m already paying for the land I’m living on and spending time to maintain it, and the front yard is brown, dusty and bare and sees no use other than a buffer between the house and the street. I cannot fit a tractor in this space, let alone any specialized planting or harvesting equipment, or processing facilities found on a typical farm; therefore, equipment and maintenance costs are reduced exponentially. Highly intensive and organic farming practices are used extensively in other parts of the world and have a long history of growing lots of food in small spaces. These techniques allow a greater diversity of crop and a higher rotation of production that cannot be matched by large scale farms. That’s how we got here; six, 25’ raised beds in the front yard giving us 375 square feet (almost a full 1/100th of an acre!) of bona fide farm land in the center of the most populous city in the most densely populated county in Florida, St. Petersburg. Sunshine City! This Spring at Greens ‘n’ Things Urban Farm, we’ll see what we can grow, trying different varieties of lettuces, salad and braising greens, spinach, chard and baby roots like radishes, beets, turnips and carrots, even some squash, zucchini and peppers. No lights, no pumps, no reservoirs, no tractors. Just sun, dirt and water.

Fall Garden Starts are HERE!

Hey Farm Friends, I hope you're all having a fantastic Summer and finding ways to stay cool! There's no escaping this brutal heat as a farmer, and this summer has been a record setter, making it hard to stay motivated to be out there everyday. The weeds and grass get taller; the compost sits to age 'just a little longer'; those old crops left from last season start getting called 'cover crops', and the thunderstorms make good excuses to stay inside... But Fall is approaching fast, and its time to move!

For the last several weeks, I've been starting seeds for the upcoming Fall Season, and this week the first transplants and direct sown seeds are going in the ground to be ready to harvest by the beginning of October.
Lots of you have been anxious to get your own Fall Gardens going and you are right on time!!

This Labor Day weekend we will have the first round of starts ready to take home. I've got Lettuces, 'Gourmet Mixed Greens', Melons, Beans, Squash, Zucchini, Peppers, Herbs and more to start, with Tomatoes and Cucumber, Kale, Collards, Chard and tons more on the way throughout the month!
I've also got bulk Potting Mix available for purchase at $4/cubic ft - about a 5-gallon bucket ($85 for a yard or more) if you need some fresh soil to top off your raised beds.
Fruit Trees everywhere! If you've fallen in love with tropical fruits, its time to plant your own! I've got 100s of trees and dozens of species of tropical fruit trees that THRIVE here in Pinellas County. Help me make room for new plants!

Labor Day Weekend Hours:

The Nursery/Farmstand is located at 1740 21st St N., St Petersburg, FL 33713

FRIDAY September 4, 12p-5p
SATURDAY September 5, 9a-1p
SUNDAY - CLOSED
MONDAY September 7, 2p-6p

Last Call for CSA Memberships

The 2026/2027 CSA Membership Season will begin October 16

The Fall Farm Season is approaching FAST! I've got the first crops in the ground and I hope to be harvesting lettuces and baby greens regularly by the beginning of October. I'm anticipating the start of CSA Season to get started the week of October 16 and I am FIRED UP!
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. This is a model where Members pre-pay for a season of veggies up front, during the summer off-season when I do not have steady sales coming from the farm's normal weekly harvests. This helps fund infrastructure repairs and upgrades, seed and supply orders, and even seasonal staff. In return, we make sure these fine folks get the best of what's available from the Farm from October to May.

I am super happy to announce that we have already matched last season's 'biggest group ever'! I should be closing things down, but its our 10th Season here at Greens N Things and I don't want anyone left out! However, in order to plan accordingly, THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR CSA MEMBERSHIPS. I have room for a few more families each week. Looking at you! :)
You can reserve your spot HERE (https://www.greensnthingsurbanfarm.com/product/2026-2027-bi-weekly-csa-share/136?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false)

Season 10 is here

This will be my 10th Season operating Greens N Things Urban Farm. I am super proud to have been able to grow delicious, high quality veggies for you all right here in the middle of our wonderful city for so many years. It has not been easy; its still not easy, but with your continued support and a little luck, I'll be able to keep growing for many more years. Help us make this our biggest yet!

Come see us at the Farmstand

Every week you can shop the best of what's available from the Farm at our Farmstand/Nursery at 1740 21st St N., St Petersburg, FL 33713. Open Fridays 12p-5p and Saturdays 9a-1p.

The main veggie season typically runs October-May/June, so we'll have much more variety and volume once harvesting begins in October. I also have Honey available from Queen & Colony (based in St Pete) and Eggs (St Pete) each week and we are working with several local bakers (also from St Pete) in rotation to get you fresh bread options for your weekly groceries.

Thank you all for your continued support, I cant wait to feed you again for Season 10!
