Our final new staff member introduction before the school year begins... Welcome to Ligon, Mr. Blount!

Mr. Blount is excited to be joining Ligon as a 7th Grade Social Studies teacher! He previously taught 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Social Studies at A.G. Cox Middle School, S.W. Snowden Middle School, and Beaufort County Ed. Tech Center. He's also coached numerous sports, including soccer and basketball. Mr. Blount earned his degrees in Political Science and History from East Carolina University (Go Pirates!), and when he's not at school, you can find him drinking coffee, exploring outdoors, or at the bookstore or movie theater diving into the Marvel and DC universes.

Mr. McBride is excited to join the Ligon Magnet Middle School team as a CTE Business teacher. He previously taught at Millbrook High School, where he also coached football for several years. Welcome to Ligon, Ms. Childrey!

Ms. Childrey is excited to join the Ligon Magnet Middle School team as a Math Intervention Teacher. She brings 37 years of experience teaching mathematics at both the middle and high school levels, most recently spending five years at Cary High School, where she taught Honors Math 3, Math 3, and Math 1. Throughout her career, she has taught a variety of mathematics courses and worked with students across multiple grade levels. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Childrey enjoys working as a Tournament Operations Coordinator (TOC) for NC State University, the ACC, and ESPN. She also enjoys spending time with her family

Ms. Morrison is excited to join the Ligon Magnet Middle School team as she begins her first year in education. She recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is eager to launch her teaching career while building meaningful relationships with her students and colleagues. Mrs. Jones is excited to join Ligon Magnet Middle School as a Health and Physical Education teacher. She brings 13 years of experience in education, having previously taught at Neuse River Middle School and Knightdale Elementary School. Ms. Felder recently graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and dual licensure in Special Education. As she begins her first year in education, Ms. Felder looks forward to supporting 6th-grade students in their academic growth and success while building meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. She is honored to begin her teaching career at Ligon and excited for a wonderful school year. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Felder enjoys baking, traveling, and spending time in nature.

🏈 SUMMER FOOTBALL SKILL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS 🏈

We are excited to offer optional summer skill development sessions for students the week before school begins!

πŸ“… SESSION DATES & TIMES
Monday, August 17 | 5:30–7:30 PM
Tuesday, August 18 | 5:30–7:30 PM
Wednesday, August 19 | 5:30–7:30 PM

Students may attend any or all three sessions. Participation is completely optional and will have no impact on final team selection.

πŸ“ WHERE TO MEET
Students should meet behind the Gym at Hut 3, near the basketball and tennis courts.

πŸ‘Ÿ WHAT TO BRING
β€’ Athletic attire appropriate for physical activity
β€’ Tennis shoes
β€’ Cleats, if available
β€’ A full, refillable water bottle

Students should be prepared to participate both indoors and outdoors, depending on the activities and conditions.

βœ… REQUIRED FAMILY FORM

Completion of the Google Form indicates that you give permission for your child to participate in the summer skill development sessions.

By submitting the form, you confirm that:
β€’ Your child is in good academic standing.
β€’ Your child is currently enrolled at Ligon Magnet Middle School or Moore Square Middle School.
β€’ Your child's required paperwork, current physical, and medical eligibility have been fully completed and approved in DragonFly.
β€’ You understand that participation is completely optional and does not impact final team selection.
