Reasons to retake the ACT:
1. To earn more academic scholarship money at colleges.

As the first day of school is fast approaching, here are some helpful tips for our college bound 🎊Seniors 2027🎉!

Here are 3 Things college bound Seniors should do before school starts.

1. Finish their college list
2. Decide who to ask for recommendation letters
3. Begin a "brain dump" list of accomplishments

Finish their college list: this means students need to narrow down the list of colleges they plan to apply to. When school starts the first thing they need to focus on outside of the classroom is beginning their applications for admission. This process is usually simple and easy, just takes a few minutes of their time to accomplish. Many students drag their feet in beginning applications because they assume it's a commitment--IT IS NOT. This process simply opens the door of opportunity for them to consider that school.

Decide who to ask for recommendation letters: this means who will they ask to write a letter of recommendation for them when one is required. Often scholarship applications will require a letter of recommendation as part of the application packet. Knowing who you will ask to write a good letter for you is so important. The people providing these letters need to know you well: academically as well as personally. It's a good idea to have someone outside of school to be able to give a character reference (referencing your work ethic, personal achievements, and community involvement). This could be a youth pastor at church, a community leader you've volunteered hours alongside, a manager at your job, a family friend, etc. Make your list, ask their permission, and begin giving them a heads up you may need their help soon.

Begin a "brain dump" list of accomplishments: this means start a list you can reference when scholarship applications or admissions applications request information. Some scholarships require an essay to include personal information that highlights your academic achievements as well as ones that show your non academic ones (such as involvement/leaderships in BETA, FBLA, Yearbook, sports, band, choir, community service, etc.). This list will also be crucial for the people you ask to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Even though they may know you well, they probably don't know or remember all of the details they can reference in a good letter to show your work ethic and accomplishments. Make it easy for them!
