N|uu, one of the world’s oldest languages, has been spoken for more than 20,000 years by South Africa’s San people. Today, it’s on the brink of extinction.
But 90-year-old Katrina Esau is fighting to keep it alive. From her home in the Northern Cape, she teaches local children and even published the first N|uu children’s book, !Qhoi n|a Tjhoi.
Through her passion and dedication, Katrina is passing on a cultural treasure and making sure this ancient language isn’t forgotten.
