Remember to pray for Israel 💙🇮🇱🙏
:
I have been reading posts about the hostages of Hamas. There are still so many missing children and loved ones. Please take a moment to ask God to comfort and rescue the prisoners of Hamas.
:
Erez Calderon is 12. He was taken at gun point from his home. One of my sons just turned 12. I just 💔💔💔🙏🙏🙏 I am praying for you, Erez!

Bring them home, Lord.

We’ve added watching World Watch as part of our homeschool routine. It’s working great for us! I took advantage of the Get 3 Months Free offer. We’re in our second week of watching and so far we love it. I like that it has both political/world events as well as light/kid-friendly topics too. I often pause the video and talk about the story, which is what I like most—the talking points that wouldn’t come up otherwise.
:
I’m adding a link to the website in case anyone wants to jump on that deal! It’s been nice to be able to see if it works for us 😍

I am still thinking about scissors and wanted to add Peter I to my cache. I don’t always do intricate cutting…sometimes just a wavy outline looks great.

You may have also noticed that I write in my own dates + descriptions. My handwriting is not consistent, but I choose to ignore that. I don’t include printed years on my Timeline Figures products, because I find there can be some variation between curriculums (curricula?) and I like to keep my product flexible. For my family, I think adding our own dates shows some ownership, and we can customize what date(s) we want to include on our TL Figures. I like that.

In more personal news, I’m reading Tipping Point by Malcome Gladwell. I was struck by the way New York cleaned up crime back in the 1990s. To start with, they tackled cleaning up the graffiti in the subways. Part of the idea is that small things, like environment, matter. I’m not cleaning up crime in New York, but I am trying to have a pleasant homeschool experience. I’ve been trying to pay closer attention to correcting the complaints I get from the kids when I say we’re going to do school. (Such groanings and head-rolls!) It’s only been 3 days, but it’s helping! I mean, duh! of course it helps. But still. Once again, I’m pleasantly surprised by the benefits of parenting. Why do I so easily forget? 🤦♀️🤷♀️😆

Next up: Lenin—colored by my 8 year old 😍. I like to think of coloring as having levels—like karate or something. Coloring is something kids get better at with practice. I think level 1 is just scribbling. 🤷♀️ Maybe level 2 is starting to stay in the lines. I might give this a level 3: you can tell he worked to keep his strokes light for most of the flag—that takes awareness of pressure, which is a great step! Looks like part of the time he cared and was being careful, and part of the time not as much 😆🤩.

Here’s another TL Figure that my 11 year old colored. Is it helpful to see real kid-colored figures? Some of my kids have liked coloring , and some not so much. My youngest got kind of burned out on it during his 4 years of “real” school ( preschool and kindergarten ). Hopefully that will change over time, but if not, it’s ok. Zack, my 6th grader is good at coloring. He loves to craft and create. His fine motor skill make coloring easier for him. He does still get frustrated when he makes a mistake. Colored pencils erase a *little* 🤨 If your kids don’t like coloring, but you do, feel free to color the timeline figures yourself! Let them watch and pick out the colors for you to use. Talk about what your kids remember from that history lesson while you color. The main point is to get the TL Figures added to the timeline so you can see them spread out over time. Keep it fun and light 😍.

>>Hey procrastinators! (🙋♀️) This is your friendly reminder to come get your timeline supplies! (Joshua’s hollering to get your attention). Speaking of procrastinating, tonight when I was putting the kids to bed, they were wondering when the first computer was invented, which made me realize we don’t have that up on our timeline. I love love love timelines, and have a figure for the first computer, and yet I don’t have it on my wall! (🙋♀️🤷♀️) But it’s not too late—we’ll get it up there. Also, we decided we want to make a TL Figure for the invention of Minecraft, and add that too. 😆🙌 I love when something from their world collides with history. Timelines can do that! 😍

These stickers are popular because they are low-fuss. Just peel and stick…no cutting or taping. They are also especially nice for Timeline notebooks because they are small! We originally switched to stickers when we hit Volume 3 of Mystery of History because the events were so numerous and the small stickers were easy to place in a notebook. Plus, they’re just cute. 😍

Share with your homeschool friends so no one misses the sale! *This coupon is only good on my website (link in bio)…it won’t work in my Etsy shop, since the stickers aren’t up there yet! 🤩*

I had the United Nations song from CC in my head today. Why?? 😆🤦♀️

After years of enjoying Mystery of History together, I was so pleased watching how my oldest 3 sons enjoyed history in high school and college. I’m eager to compare how adding all these Classical Conversations history songs into their education impacts them and helps them with their scope of understanding!

This is one of my favorite Timeline Figures I’ve made. Some of them just make me happy. 😍 If you google “Justinian I” you’ll probably see an image of a mosaic depiction of Justinian and Theodora. It was fun to try to capture their style in playful way. Mostly though, I just like these guys because they’re fancy and cute and fun to color.

Also, I’m currently at freshman orientation in Auburn! That makes 3 in college and 2 left in grade school 🤪

Here’s an example of a timeline figure that my 8 year old, Peter, colored (minus the letters, that was me). When we have some time to color, I like to pick out several relevant figures, based on what we’ve been learning, and let the kids pick which ones they’re interested in coloring. Sometimes I’ll tidy up their letters (or if they’ve just left the letters uncolored, I’ll fill them in myself). Peter does not like coloring, and does way fewer figures than his brother. That’s ok. He works hard at staying in the lines, and when he’s done, he’s done, no matter how “finished” it looks. Instead of taping it on the timeline looking sloppy and unfinished, I like to give it a little help—in this case adding a pop of color. 👍🤩

Do you have your TL Figures yet? Grab them this summer and you’ll have time to get them printed or shipped before school sneaks up on you! 🙌 Link in Bio.

Have you tried Crayola’s new (well, new-ish) World Colors? I love the colored pencils! In the past, when I color people for my Timeline Figures, I would try blending different neutrals to try to make a skin tone. My characters always looked a little sick to me 😆 I love the range of skin tones that the World Colors include.

In order to make it easier for me to choose what color I want to use, I made a color key. Seeing the different colors all mapped out makes selecting a color easy. Also it’s fun to fill in the squares—it makes good practice for using light and heavy pressure.
