Following her marriage to Ulysses S. Grant, Julia Grant adjusted to life as a military wife, often managing household responsibilities on her own while her husband was away on duty. Having grown up with slaves, she struggled with running a home. When the American Civil War broke out, her father remained a Democrat and supporter of the Confederacy, while Grant supported the Union, aligning herself to her husband's allegiance.

Join local bird enthusiasts on a guided bird walk along the Otter Creek in Mt. Tabor! We will be exploring the property during peak spring migration in hopes of seeing waterfowl, herons, flycatchers, warblers, and whatever other feathered surprises the season brings! Come prepared to walk roughly 3 miles over uneven terrain and railroad tracks. Binoculars will not be provided, so please bring your own. This event will be held rain or shine and accompanied by a pre-recorded short introductory video.
