Please join me in congratulating Ellie & Ghost on their first MN State 4h show! They came out of the week with a 4th in Western Showmanship, 4th in Ranch Pleasure, and 6th in Horsemanship.

I could not be more proud of this team and the hard work they’ve put in this year! Congratulations on a job well done! 👏🏻👏🏻

Goodbye Summer and hello Fall 🍁🍂

We had our first annual “End of the season Fun Show” today! A number of my school-aged students came to show off their knowledge and skills to their friends and families. Our showbill had 4 classes: Tack Slap, Trail Class, Barrels, and Egg & Spoon.

Everyone has done such a great job this year, I’m proud of you all! Thanks all for a fun day!

Parents- tag yourselves at will and feel free to leave other pictures in the comments!

And just like that… the kids are headed back to school! August was a great month.

While I normally continue lessons into Fall, this season is coming to an end a bit early this year so we can relax and get ready for our new little ranch hand to make her arrival 🩷

A big congrats to Ellie and “Ghost” for a wonderful first night at the Houston County Fair 4h Horse Show!
This kiddo has put in the work this last year to get her horse and her horsemanship to where they are now, and I couldn’t be more proud of them. Together they earned Blue ribbons in almost all of their pleasure classes last night, as well as earning Reserve Champion in both Showmanship and Ranch Pleasure! Congrats on a job well done 🎉🍀

Wrapping up on July and I can’t help but reflect on how proud I am of all my students this year! The big goal for everyone going into this summer was autonomy. All of my students, regardless of age, are catching/haltering/leading & tying their own horses, and gaining so much independence and confidence in the saddle! Great job everyone.

I did not do a good job of getting pictures this month, but here’s a few! 😅

This morning’s lessons were unfortunately cancelled. This heat and humidity is getting to the horses, we had one with labored breathing yesterday, just from standing in the pasture. Now the smoke has reached us and it is SMOKY out there this morning.

Best things we can do for our horses this week? Water, fly spray, electrolytes, shade, cool baths, and rest. Praying Mother Nature hands us an easier second half to this wild summer 🤞🏻

🔥 Wildfire Smoke & Horse Health 🐴💨

Poor air quality can be harmful not only to us but our horses too. Smoke from wildfires can irritate a horse's respiratory system and cause fatigue, coughing, difficulty breathing, etc.

You can monitor local air quality at www.airnow.gov. During periods of poor air quality, you can protect your horse's health by:

🐎 Limiting or avoiding exercise.
💧 Providing free access to fresh water.
💦 Controlling dust such as watering dry lots and soaking or feeding dust-free hay.
🕰 Allowing time for recovery: airway damage from wildfire smoke takes 4 to 6 weeks to heal after air quality returns to normal.
☎️ Consult your vet if you notice signs of smoke irritation.
