“The bell rings, the adventure begins.”
APEX 2.0 after school program is starting soon!

⌚️AUGUST 31st⌚️
WCHS APEX is Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

🚌Buses transport students to elementary schools at Sebree, Slaughters, Providence, and Clay each afternoon.

💻Registration forms are available in Mrs. Wright’s room or parents can register online using this Google Form:

APEX 2.0 is a 21st Century Community Learning Center. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Program is a federally funded program that provides academic support, enrichment, tutoring, and other learning opportunities for students.

All students are welcome including homeschool.

We blinked and APEX Summer Camp 2026 has come to an end. 💙☀️

Mrs. Wright and all of the APEX staff are going to miss these students so much this summer! Over the past two weeks, we’ve learned together, laughed together, traveled together, and made memories that will last a lifetime.

For our final day, students put their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test in a Chopped Challenge sponsored by the Stronger Connections Grant. Campers competed in three exciting rounds (appetizer, entrée, and dessert) using a variety of ingredients to create unique dishes. We were so impressed by their creativity, teamwork, and willingness to try new things!

This afternoon, we celebrated an amazing camp with a fun-filled water day led by Mr. Starks. Students enjoyed water games, races, challenges, and plenty of opportunities to cool off while making one last set of summer camp memories together.

As we close the door on another incredible APEX Summer Camp, we want to thank our students, families, community partners, and staff for making these two weeks so special. Watching our students grow in confidence, build new friendships, learn life skills, and prepare for their futures is why we do what we do.

Have a safe and wonderful summer! We can’t wait to see what amazing things each of you accomplishes. ❤️

Day 7 of APEX Summer Camp was an unforgettable adventure! 🐴☀️

Today, our campers spent the morning at Healing Reins Horse Farm, where they learned about horses, farming, and the rich history of the farm. Students had the unique opportunity to interact with the horses up close while learning the basics of horse care, including proper touching, grooming, and leading techniques. They also learned about the important role farms play in our communities and gained a greater appreciation for agriculture and animal care.

After an amazing morning at the farm, we headed to Urban Air for excitement, teamwork, and fun! Students challenged themselves, encouraged one another, and made memories that will last long after camp is over.

To wrap up the day, we enjoyed dinner at Cheddar’s. This wasn’t just a meal… it was another learning opportunity! Students practiced restaurant etiquette, discussed budgeting, and learned valuable life skills that will serve them well in the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this incredible day possible. From learning at the farm to flying through Urban Air and finishing with dinner together, Day 7 was packed with experiences that combined education, life skills, and fun.

Only one day of camp remains, and we are excited to make it the best one yet!

Day 6 of APEX Summer Camp is complete, and we can’t believe there are only 2 days left! ☀️🎉

Today was all about preparing for the future while learning how to take care of ourselves and others.

We were excited to welcome Lauren from Baptist Health Deaconess Human Resources. She shared valuable information about what employers look for in potential employees, how students can build a strong resume, and the many career opportunities available for individuals at all levels of education and experience. It was a great opportunity for students to begin thinking about their future career paths.

We also welcomed Mattea from River Valley Behavioral Health, who spoke with students about mental health awareness and the importance of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Her discussion helped students better understand mental health challenges and the resources available when someone needs support.

In the afternoon, students got creative by making personalized stepping stones to take home, and Mr. Starks led an excellent lesson on recreational safety. From outdoor activities to everyday adventures, students learned important tips for staying safe while having fun this summer.

A huge thank you to all of our presenters and partners who continue to invest in our students. Every day of camp brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and prepare for the future!

Day 5 of APEX Summer Camp was packed with hands-on learning and real-world skills! 🎉

Yesterday, students focused on preparing for their futures by learning valuable interview skills. We discussed how to make a great first impression, answer common interview questions, and present ourselves professionally. Then, students put their new knowledge to work by participating in mock interviews and practicing their communication skills.

We also got creative and made our own snackle boxes thanks to the Stronger Connections Grant! Students enjoyed designing their boxes and filling them with a variety of tasty snacks.

To wrap up the day, we put science into action by making slime! Campers learned about the reactions that take place when ingredients are combined and had a blast creating their own unique slime creations.

From career readiness to STEM activities (and snacks in between!), Day 5 was full of learning, laughter, and fun. We can’t believe we’re already heading into the final days of camp! ☀️

Day 4 of APEX Summer Camp was one for the books! 🚌✨

Today, our campers traveled to Discovery Park of America for an unforgettable day of exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning. Students had the opportunity to explore exhibits focused on science, technology, history, transportation, agriculture, and so much more. Everywhere they turned, there was something new to learn and experience!

A huge thank you to the Beacon of West Kentucky for sponsoring this amazing field trip and making this opportunity possible for our students.

We would also like to thank Webster County Food Services for providing breakfast and lunch and FRYSC for providing dinner for our campers and staff. Your support helps make experiences like these possible for our students and families.

After four incredible days of learning, creating, and exploring, we are excited to recharge this weekend and return next week for even more summer camp adventures! ☀️🎉

Day 3 of APEX Summer Camp was all about mental wellness, creativity, and fun! 🧠💙

Today, we participated in “Be Kind to Your Mind” Mental Health Camp, sponsored by FRYSC, Mrs. Bri, and the Beacon of West Kentucky.

Students rotated through a variety of engaging stations focused on self-care, mindfulness, and creativity, including:
🎨 Canvas painting
📓 Journal making
🪨 Sculpting and worry stone creation
🫧 Sensory bottle making
☀️ Temporary tattoos and sidewalk chalk art
🏃 Bounce obstacle course fun

To make the day even sweeter, students enjoyed snow cones and wrapped up the afternoon with a water balloon party! 💦🍧

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this special day possible. It was wonderful to see our students learning healthy ways to express themselves, manage stress, and take care of their minds while having a blast with friends.

Day 2 of APEX Summer Camp was another great day of hands-on learning at the tech school! 🔧📚

This morning, students stepped into the “real world” during Reality Store with Mrs. Fran. Using money they earned from their assigned “jobs,” students practiced budgeting for real-life expenses like bills, savings, and unexpected scenarios. It was a fun and eye-opening experience that taught valuable life skills!

In the afternoon, we teamed up with Mrs. Brown for an incredible first aid session. Students created “first aid kits on steroids” while learning important emergency and health skills. They learned how to use tourniquets, made their own heating pads and ice packs, and explored so many other useful first aid techniques.

We also tested water samples from around the school since we recently had a boil advisory.

We are loving all the creativity, teamwork, and real-world learning happening at APEX Summer Camp! ☀️

Day 1 of APEX Summer Camp is in the books! ☀️

Yesterday, we had an amazing time learning and creating with three of our tech school teachers. Students built and painted their own birdhouses, designed homemade s’mores ovens, and got creative using 3-D pens.

It was a fun-filled day of hands-on learning, teamwork, and creativity. We can’t wait to see what day 2 has in store!

APEX 2.0 Weekly Recap ✨

Another great week of learning, creativity, and fun in APEX 2.0!

• Students spent an afternoon at the Tech School, exploring engineering with Ms. Willett and getting a hands-on look at real-world skills and career pathways. 🔧

• We took time to reflect by writing letters to our future selves. Ameaningful activity that encouraged goal setting and personal growth. 💌

• Our Drama Club met to discuss plans for next school year. 🎭

• Students participated in a civics test review, helping them prepare and feel more confident for testing this week. 📚

• Students also continued to care for their plants, learning responsibility while watching their hard work grow. 🌱
