Queen City Toastmasters Member Spotlight on.......
Dream O'Brien!!!
Office(s) held: President, VP of Education, VP of Membership, Secretary/Treasurer
Member since: November of 1999
Occupation: Wealth Manager at Choice Financial Wealth Management
Favorite Quote? "Do not allow one cloud to cause loss of sun filled sky" A friend told me this one day when I was struggling. I keep it on my desk to remind me not to let one little thing throw off my whole day.
Speaking strength's: When I first joined Toastmasters, Janice Mosbrucker and Vicky Steiner served as Evaluators for a couple of my speeches. They told me to "tell us what you are going to tell us, tell us, and then tell us what you told us." They also suggested that what I was going to "tell us" should be kept to 3 bullet points. I always use these suggestions when preparing a speech. I also try to always ask how to keep my speeches interesting for my fellow Toastmasters.
Speaking area you need to work on: I continue to love Table Topics. I am working on the ability to "speak on my feet".
Other clubs/orgs you're involved with in Dickinson? Dickinson Public Library Foundation Board, St John Lutheran Church Trust Fund, and Power of 100 Women
How has Toastmasters benefited your speaking and leadership skills? I hope I am getting better at "speaking on my feet (Table Topics) and I think my evaluation skills have improved greatly. I appreciate my improved evaluation skills every day.
Someone you consider successful and why? I have two definitions of successful people. 1) I think successful people are the people that are working at a job they love. 2) I also think successful people are people that are willing to share their time, talent and treasures with those that are less fortunate.
Qualities a Toastmaster should possess? The desire to improve themselves, the desire to learn, and the the desire to help others on their Toastmasters journey.

☆Member Spotlight☆
Meet Seth Poland, our current Queen City President. Seth has been an active member since 2015.
When Seth isn't at a club meeting you'll find him very active within the community including: working at our local Baker Boy as a Cost Accountant as well as being involved with Rotary, Dickinson BackPack Program, Stephen Ministries, and God's Work Our Hands.
Within Toastmasters, he notes,
"I think my biggest strength is being able to relate my speech topic to an event that has occurred in my life. This makes my speech preparation much easier as I'm not having to learn new information when speaking about personnel events."
Seth goes onto explain how Toastmasters has benefited him personally and professionally.
"It has helped me to improve upon my fear of public speaking which I believe has allowed me to become more outgoing in general. It has also taught me how to properly run a meeting to keep things organized and on time"
If you've ever had the pleasure to listen to a speech from Seth, you'll be impressed by his confident, genuine delivery that is always memorized and on point with the audience.
Join us next week when Seth will be evaluating one of our featured speakers at our local Queen City Toastmasters meeting!!
