It’s 2 weeks post the London to Paris ride (L2P) with Myeloma UK in honour of my sister Lisa, who rode as a patient in 2018. It still feels a bit surreal that it happened. I have the evidence, from the still fading bruises (I bruise like an overripe banana), pictures, video’s, the stories and the bike. As the memories start to solidify I’m sure it will start to feel real.

We ride for awareness and fundraising for this incurable blood cancer. With each conversation the hope is that people will have less time to get diagnosed and with the fundraising there are more treatment options and longevity, with ultimately a cure being found.

It was amazing to be surrounded by people that have different connections with Myeloma – the patients like my sister, that I am in awe of as they ride and share their stories, to fellow riders who are riding in honour of their loved one, and the riders supporting their loved one that are in treatment and either riding or at home, the clinical teams and the corporate teams that ride in support of this charity. I will hold dear every single conversation that was had, and new friends made.

To the Myeloma UK team – what an event, what a community, the work you are doing matters!

To the Discover Adventures crew – you rallied us, took invaluable care of us, our kit and bikes!

To my crew of friends and family that supported me – Thank you!!!
A smattering of pictures below, including my Strava stats…I won’t be seeing some of those badges again..oof!

I’m inside 1 week till the London to Paris ride (L2P) in honour of my sister, Lisa, who rode as a patient in 2018.

The ride is over 4 days, starting in Blackheath-London, finishing in Paris, covering about 270 miles.

It’s been really nice to have the focus of training again, and thinking of Lisa in a different way, since her death. I had hoped she would have been able to ride again and I could train and ride alongside her…it was never meant to be.

There is so much in this about awareness. I cannot change what Lisa’s diagnosis and treatment was like, I can raise awareness so that someone else can get diagnosed sooner, and more research gets funded so that the outcome can keep changing for all that are diagnosed and their loved ones.

It took 8+ months for Lisa to get diagnosed, and she arrived at treatment with a broken clavicle, and 4 crushed vertebra, the cancer on its way to her pelvis, and drastically underweight. When she rode as a patient she was on the other side of a stem cell transplant, and earlier on having spent 8 weeks in what I called her jousting vest to stabilize her spine and correct the hunch. Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer is currently incurable.

If you feel drawn to donate, I would be gratefully appreciative. Any amount helps, and your awareness could help get someone diagnosed.

Picture of Lisa in 2018 during the ride, and of me as I’m training sporting her sunglasses.

We’re riding as Wacky Racers, the name from when Lisa rode.

And if you’re on Strava, give me a follow to see my training rides, and posting each day of L2P

Collect my new bike for the Myeloma UK L2P ride next week…shout out to Trek Hooksett US and Trek Poole UK for helping me out of this predicament after Lisa’s bike that she rode L2P in 2018 was stolen, that I was going to be riding this year.

Did a test 6 miles and super happy, and feel more ready for the 280 miles ahead of me.

Grief Rambles – A gentle walk for those navigating loss

Grief Rambles is a gentle, informal walk designed for those experiencing loss, whether recent or long ago

Location
Mine Falls Park - Lincoln Park Entrance (Just Past Hannaford's Coliseum Ave, Nashua)

About this walk
Grief can feel isolating, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Grief Rambles is a gentle, informal walk designed for those experiencing loss, whether recent or long ago. There’s no pressure to share or explain; just a space to be outside, move, and connect with others who understand.

We’ll walk at a steady, relaxed pace along the rail trail, pausing when needed and letting the conversation (or companionable silence) unfold naturally.

Who is this for?
• Anyone processing grief, no matter the stage or circumstance.
• Those who find comfort in walking, nature, or quiet companionship.
• People looking for a low-pressure, free-form way to connect with others who “get it.”

What to expect
• A low-key, welcoming atmosphere—whether you want to chat, listen, or just walk.
• An circular loop along the trails.
Practical details
• Meeting Point: Lincoln Park Entrance Sign (just before the bridge)
• Duration: Approximately 30-60 mins
• What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and an open heart.
• Rain or Shine
This is a free event, we walk together, with no rush, no rules, just a shared understanding.

About Me
Hi, I'm Claire, of Grief Conversations with Claire. Grief Coach, Grief Educator and Speaker. Bereaved sibling, granddaughter, doggie Mum, and other losses that don’t have the relationship title to them-still emotional impactful due to the relationship. I support people who are working through the loss of a beloved person, pet, or life circumstance and are ready to find their new normal in a way that honours the loss. And at the same time, helps them move through all the emotions, thoughts, and experiences that are so normal in grief, with a newfound permission to be as they are, experience grace. I am their partner in the healing process so that they can recover a sense of safety, trust in their own intuition, and clarity as they navigate the later phases of the grief journey.
This walk is on Maggie’s 7th death anniversary, we’ll walk a route that was a favorite of ours

Grief Rambles Wednesday Oct 22nd 2025 Diary

The rain stopped shortly before walking time, which was nice.

The path was decorated with fallen leaves, and plenty on the trees still, making for a pretty and decorative walk.

Smiles where shared with fellow passer-byers. At one fence a dog attentively watched the activity, almost recognizing the presence of grief, and simply observed.

A hot beverage was enjoyed after, especially on the cusp of hat and glove season.

If you have recommendations for a Grief Rambles location, day, time or something you would like to see occur on the walks, I would enjoy hearing from you.

Grief Rambles Sunday September 14th 2025 Diary

The weather held off, which was nice and unexpected. There was some puddle dodging at the beginning, feet stayed dry.

It was nice being alongside the River Hamble, the tide was out and the birds where chatting…especially the Robins.

This was a significant date for me, as it was 3 years ago when I landed and was in Lisa’s hospital room, after getting the call no one wants to make, or receive. It’s important to hold space for these dates that we know so well, to others they may have no clue, as it’s not like a birthday, anniversary or like.

The hot chocolate was delicious after at Mermaids Coffee Shop.

Till the next one in October...sign-up here https://griefconversationswithclaire.eventbrite.com

As always, take care, and I look forward to seeing you on a ramble.
