🫶🏻 Decades of research from Harvard’s EASEL Lab point to the same conclusion: children build emotional skills through repeated interactions with the adults they trust most.

😵‍💫 That development takes shape over time—in moments of frustration, conflict, disappointment, and trying again after something doesn’t go as planned.

💪🏽 These everyday interactions may seem small, but they’re where children learn how to stay calm, recover, and move forward.

🧠 Moxie translates this research into short, parent-led activities that help families build emotional skills together at home.

📚 In a study published by the American Journal of Public Health, researchers followed children from kindergarten into early adulthood and found that the social and emotional skills they developed through ages 5–6 were linked to outcomes 13-19 years later—across school, work, and mental health.

The early years matter, and so much of that foundation is built at home, in the interactions children have with the adults around them.

A lot of what shows up later starts earlier 🚸

How kids handle frustration, recover, and interact with others doesn’t begin in one moment—it builds over time.

Moxie co-founder & CEO, James, shares more about this 🌱

What sorts of things are you doing at home to give your kids the best start?

A lot of parenting happens in parallel.

Supporting a child through frustration while managing your own response, and holding the moment together while also trying to move the day forward.

It’s a skill set that doesn’t get talked about much—but it shows up everyday.

When does this feel hardest in your day?

04/14/2026

Most of what shapes a child’s emotional development doesn’t happen in a single moment.

It builds over time, through the same situations showing up again and again: Frustration, conflict, and trying again after something didn’t quite work.

How parents and caregivers respond in those moments—what we model, how we guide—starts to add up. Over time, those patterns shape how a child learns to handle challenges, navigate relationships, and regulate their emotions.

What’s something you’ve seen your child get better at over time?

70% of parents say they could use more support for their child’s emotional well-being ❤️‍🩹

The opportunity to fill that gap is significant—and it shows up in regular, everyday moments; after school, during dinner, the bedtime routine, and in situations that require flexibility or don’t have clear answers 😵‍💫

❓ As a parent, where do you need the most support right now?

4pm doesn’t always look like a meltdown 🌪️

Sometimes it looks like play, energy, overstimulation, boundary-testing, frustration, and navigating after-school sibling play while you're cooking dinner and getting someone ready for soccer practice 🥁 ⚽ 🍽️

For a lot of families, the hours after school are full of these puzzle pieces of an ordinary evening—where kids are processing their day, testing limits, and figuring things out in real time.

And as parents, we're right there with them, doing our best to manage both what’s happening in front of them and their own capacity for it.

For these in-between moments, a little more structure—and a little more support—can go a long way 💪

What does 4pm look like for your household?

📚 Kids spend most of their day in school.

But what shapes how they handle frustration, navigate friendships, and recover after things don’t go as planned happens somewhere else: At the dinner table. Getting ready for soccer practice. At a friend’s birthday party. In the back seat running errands.

These ordinary interactions matter more than we think—and a lot of families are navigating them alone.

🌟 Introducing Moxie: We're building something different to help parents guide their kids through these moments—with simple, practical ways to support how children learn to handle big feelings.

🧠 Grounded in decades of Harvard EASEL Lab research and designed for everyday routines, Moxie helps families build emotional skills through the moments they already share.

We're having great talks with parents and teachers like you about how Moxie can move the home and classroom from chaos to calm. Want more info on how to make Moxie available in your area? Send us a DM!
