To Parents of Struggling Young Readers,
If you are looking for a tutor for your child, then look no further than Gwen Eden. My son was in second grade, reading at a kindergarten level. We tried to work with another tutor, but my son had a hard time focusing after school with them. Gwen let us know that she started tutoring struggling readers, so we decided to give her a try.
Let me tell you, it was a night-and-day experience. The other tutor was kind and highly educated in child education. However, my son was always dreading learning more after
school. He tried to focus, but he just wasn’t engaged in the process.
During our first session with Gwen, I could hear my son laughing, excited, and engaged. The next time I told him Ms. Gwen was coming over, he smiled and said “ok”. He didn’t tell me he was too tired or a million other excuses. She helped to break down the fundamentals in a way that was easy for him to understand, as well as making the
process enjoyable for him.
Gwen gave us fun activities like “Slap” or “Park the car”. My child actually asked me to play the Slap game with him every day. She set the stage for a more positive learning environment in our home, and that was such a relief for us.
With the help of Gwen, I am happy to say that two years later, my son is no longer on an IEP and reading at grade level.
