How did I build a waterfall in a day?
Sneakiness is a powerful energy source.

I created two other large water features prior to this one, so it made the process of building this one so mush faster, plus I had left over materials.

The sound of moving water givs us stressed-out humans a much-needed sense of peace.

The classic mnemonic for the American Goldfinch supposedly sounds like it’s saying, “po ta to chip”, but I’d rather hear it say its first name.

There are so many goldfinch singing their full songs right now. Listen for this flight call, pup, pup, pup, pup, in between to help you easily identify it.

Listening Tip: The four beats in this call are so fast you many not hear each syllable. Tune your ears to hear the millisecond pause.

Did you know hummingbirds are already beginning to head south? The males leave first, then the females, and then the youngsters. Are you ready for them? Don’t take your feeders down until late fall. You may get a lot more than in spring. Be sure your feeders are changed and cleaned every two days. In this heat sugar can start growing bacteria and mold quickly. Take care of these little gems and they will keep coming back year after year. And they’ll bring their friends.
