Fear wont keep you from dying, only from living. Classes and events: beacons.ai/erinmerelli

Animal loss is sometimes dismissed as less than it really is. They can be our truest companions, and they deserve honorable end of life care.

My full weekend immersion, now online.

Is this enough training to call yourself a professional doula? No, this work is deeper than a weekend.

But it will 1) prepare you for personal loss 2) support your grief and 3) inform you as to if stepping into professional doulaship and a longer program is what your heart wants.

It’s the most complete training a weekend could provide. You’ll surprise yourself at how fun and compelling it is, and you’ll also have the opportunity to sit with your own grief in a supported space.

One weekend with truly life shifting potential 💞

If you feel drawn toward end of life work but aren’t yet ready for the deep journey of Deathschool Evolved, I created this class for you.

A bit deeper than a toe in the water, Threshold is an intermediate training. It’s for new learners. Maybe you’ve taken my free Death Doula 101 class (if not, go get it!) or maybe you’ve been reading about Doulaship and are ready to learn the lessons. You’ll need some curiosity and courage to enter, but you don’t need credentials, only the willingness to ask: Is this for me?

What the weekend covers:
Lesson 1: Philosophy & Phases of Doulaship
Lesson 2: Disposition Options & Environmentalism in Deathcare
Lesson 3: Grief as Praise
Lesson 4:Ceremony & Crafting Meaningful Rituals
Lesson 5: Case Studies & Real-Life Applications
Lesson 6: Business of Doulaship

I hope to see you there. Link in bio🖤💀

There are so many ways to memorialize our loved ones. You don’t have to show your grief by buying a $15k casket. Some things, money could never buy.

Hi it’s Erin, Death Educator from Denver. I am a rookie at making videos and honey, you can tell. But we have to be beginners before we can fly, so I’m here paying my dues. What I’m not new at - is death education. I’ve been a death doula for one a decade and training other doulas for the last 7 years. I’m finally facing my camera-shy fears, committed to teaching the public more about something really important that we all do - die.

Remember how I told you a few weeks ago that we turned my sister into a windchime? That’s only half the story. As you saw, it was her bones we used for that.
This part? Her body.

During water cremation (which is very different from flame cremation), the soft tissues (skin, muscles, organs) break down into a very nutrient-rich formula called “tree tea”.
These are your salts, sugars and peptides. Your roots.
They can be used to grow new life.
Tree’s. Grasses. Peonies.

In every film with a cemetery scene they say
ashes to ashes, dust to dust
but in modern reality we embalm and entomb the dead, preventing that return.

This is a rebellion,
to feed the Earth, once we are done feeding.
So we gave her to the Earth
Where every spring she blooms as peonies
and instead of visiting a cemetery, I visit a flower farm.

P.S. Shout out to my daughter for her college graduation this week. We know auntie is proud of you. 🪽

After completing a death doula training, many students are left asking the same question:

“But what does this actually look like with a real client?”

In an ideal world, every new doula could shadow experienced practitioners through real end-of-life work. But death doulas are independent providers, not hospital systems with built-in clinicals. And ethically, it can be difficult to ask dying people and their families to invite students into deeply intimate moments.

So this important stage of learning often gets skipped entirely.

That’s why Kacie and I created Death Unfolded: a virtual shadowing experience designed to bridge the gap between education and practice.

Through evolving case studies, we walk with clients week by week, exploring the realities of doulaship beyond the textbook: family dynamics, bedside care, uncertainty, grief, ritual, conflict, practical planning, and the deeply human nature of this work.

Not polished perfection. Realistic, nuanced deathcare.

A self-paced virtual apprenticeship for those ready to deepen their understanding of what it truly means to accompany others through the final threshold.
