National History Day projects are a labor of love, and they evolve over time, taking months to complete. At each step of the process, from school -level contests to the regional and state level, students internalize the feedback of the judges and amend their projects. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers statewide help ensure Colorado students meet the rubric requirements. Check out some of our student work and the evolution of their projects from start to finish. Consider donating to our Back-to-School campaign. This year's goal of $40,000 would fund our program for the 2026-2027 contest cycle, allowing NHDC to buy exhibit boards, classroom supplies, contest medals, and pay for building use fees. Step into any Colorado classroom this fall, and you will see students opening more than just textbooks. They are opening doors to the past. They are discovering the voices of those who came before them, and in doing so, finding their own. To ensure every child can share their story, National History Day in Colorado (NHDC) has launched its "Back-to-School Forward to History Campaign" with a deeply heartfelt goal: turning community love into a $40,000 student support fund.

The heart of this campaign lies in its simplicity. NHDC is not looking for corporate giants or massive financial windfalls. Instead, they are looking for 8,000 everyday heroes willing to give just $5. Our newsletter is delivered to over 10,000 email addresses each month. Is this the month you click and alter the resources available to students to create their NHD project?

It is a beautiful reminder that no gift is too small, and no voice is too quiet, when a community stands together to build something life-changing for the next generation. We want our students to know that their ideas matter, regardless of their family’s zip code or bank account. A $5 donation might feel like pocket change to an adult, but when it compounds across our community, it creates a lasting change for students in the classroom.

100% of the money raised goes directly to breaking down financial barriers and giving back to students; no money is used for administrative salaries. It buys hundreds of exhibit boards, pays for contest medals, classroom supplies for educators, and covers the travel costs that so often stand between a passionate student and their dreams of competing on the state and national stage.

History is not just found in dusty archives—it is being written right now by the students in our neighborhoods.
