Synopsis - The birth of Freemasonry is unknown, lost to annuals of time. It has lived through many eras and ages to come to us in its present form. Although influenced by the building guilds of the Middle Ages, Freemasonry, as it is known today, is the heir to the Ancient Mystery Religions found in the birthplace of Western Esoteric Tradition. Modern Freemasonry is syncretic by its nature and thus we will study one of the fundamental philosophies of the Western Esoteric Tradition—Gnosticism. Understanding the principles of Gnosticism will help the Seeker to better comprehend the principles Freemasonry, if he should ever join our noble ranks.
