Special Thanks to all who added to my birthday! Your wishes were most appreciated. Still above the grass, life is good. As my grandkids card reminded me - Don't sweat it -- Folks do not like sweaty old men!

Great to be back skiing after being off the slopes for 12+ years. Especially now that I can ski with my daughter Amy Hunt Pierce and her crew. Amazing how well after three days the grandkids are skiing! But then again having Tom Oka taking pictures and giving tips yesterday was a blast. Even got me finding success on these shaped skis Goodbye to my old K2 Cheeseburger Deluxe shorts.

Author Tami Ann and her friend Mary Pearce hit the hiking trails today to support Jason William Hunt Foundation.

October is Therapeutic Wilderness Awareness™ Month. The Jason William Hunt Foundation's mission is to A) inform families in crisis of the value of therapeutic wilderness expedition treatment programs to effect life-saving changes in at-risk teens and B) provide financial assistance to help defray such treatment costs. These clinically supervised and controlled programs may last from 40 to 89 days at an average cost of $500.00 daily. Jason's Day™ Virtual 5K Charity Event is an opportunity for outdoors lovers to help in that mission.

Participating in the Jason's Day Virtual Charity Event is not too late! As a virtual event participant, you get to pick a date from now until November 15th, the time, the location, and the exercise (walk, run, bike, hike, climb, ride, swim, paddle, cave, tent, stationary equipment, or read a book) that suits you best. Just do what you love best!

I am writing today to tell you about a special individual who has been very supportive of Jason’s Foundation and in therapeutic wilderness in general. In fact he has spent his career in the field helping others.

I have known of Scott Bandoroff, Ph.D. since 2010 when I met his co-founder Sandy Newes Ph.D. while researching for my book WALKING WITH JASON. They created the Clinical First Responder Training Program for wilderness staff to be better prepared for trauma in the field. Then, about four years ago, I met Scott at a conference in Asheville. But it wasn’t until recently that I got to see Scott in action.

When we introduced Jason’s Day* Virtual 5K Scott got a group of friends together to participate in Eugene, OR. In the process they created a video which is still on the website’s home page – and attached to this message. Last year, I realized we could be at an all-time high if we got a few more participants. I sent a blast email asking for help. Scott answered to say he was working on it and I could rest as the job was done. I joking wrote back that he must be Batman as I felt like the mayor of Gotham when he sends out the Bat Signal and Batman responds. Thus, I named Scott “Batman” and thought it was over. That same day Scott sends me a photograph of himself leaning against a black sedan, a bit worse for wear, but proudly showing, on the driver’s door, the Bat Logo!!!!!! Scott still claims it just happen to be out side his house that day. (You just cannot make this stuff up!)

JWHF created the On Belay Award to recognize folks who move the foundation forward. It could be showing us a new way to fundraise, a new way mission, or, as a in Scott’s case, generating support by calling, emailing, and chasing his friends to make this happen. He did all this while traveling to Ukraine to aid 16 families to emigrate to the USA. Busy man!

The award reads: Presented to Scott “Batman” Bandoroff In "Recognition of Your Efforts of Helping Others By Answering the Call. March 2023"

If you know Scott send “Batman” your congratulations.
